As far as being a hometown hero, there are different degrees. You can settle for high school hoops hometown hero, or you can try for nationally televised and recognized by tens of millions as a hometown hero. Right now Harry may be a HS hoops hometown hero, if he goes to Duke, even that will be minimized.
Who says he can't be a champion at Wake and be a big-time nationally recognized hometown hero?
A real star writes his own story and makes his own history, rather than follows the crowd of other five stars; and if all goes according to plan and all the pieces fall into place, which is in no way guaranteed, then and only then, he can simply repeat a success that many others have already achieved.
