BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

He really reminds me of Anthony Randolph (former lefty LSU PF who was 4th pick in the 2008 draft)

Kudos to the staff for reeling in a hell of an 18 class. One our best classes in a long time. Im excited for the future.

The only big we lose that will get alot of playing time is Thompson, and we add Hoard and Mucius so im not sure were desperate for a big, but if a top 40 guy like Montgomery wants to come you take him in a heartbeat.

Hoard and Mucius are obviously different players than Montgomery. He's the small ball 5 we had with Collins and we may have in Thompson.

That mixtape is great.

He seems like the exact type of recruit that Danny Manning should be getting serious looks from given the success John Collins had at Wake and so far in the NBA.

Very athletic, but probably not a true "one and done" based on his ranking... Seems like a pitch that would be pretty easy to make for Manning.

We don't have a true PF on the roster. Manning can pitch him on replacing Thompson in the starting lineup and playing at the 5 when we play two of Hoard/Mucius/Melo together.

That honestly seems like Jerry Meyer panicked when Riley called him out and said it was a mistake to save skin. They drop recruits all the time for no apparent reason, especially after they commit to a school that isn’t a blue blood

Yep, that's exactly what happened. The difference between #41 or 51 and #250 is minuscule. Only the top kids really separate themselves. The rest of the ranking system is used to drive up subscriptions. When a second/third tier recruit signs with a program that's not State School U (or Duke) they move them down.

Its why recruiting rankings (outside of the top handful of kids) is a crock of s***

you can say that about 75-125, but I do think there's a big dropoff after that point (i.e., a player without any top 100 ink to his name), and pretty clear differentiation above that point (i.e., consensus top ~75 players)

Gosh this board benches players in a hurry in favor of the next big 17 year old that mentions us... we need a 5? What happened to how awesome Sarr was going to be? And hopefully Doral? SJM status is unknown but his potential on this board is barely a flicker at this point. You can never have enough talent and would welcome another quality player big or small in a heartbeat, but trying to not feel like the buzz about some of our players is nothing but hype

If those guys are good they'll be gone in a couple of years. If they're not, we need to find somebody better. That's how college basketball works now.

Ph... You love Melo!

It's hard to see a situation in which he doesn't get minutes next year at least in a 3/4 rotation with Hoard and Mucius.
