Football Deacs in the NFL

Bachman is 10th with 166 yards and Dortch is 11th with 164 total yards receiving.

These stats aren’t updated but I think it’s receptions not yards. Still impressive. Dortch is among leaders in both as well.

I'm pretty sure those are updated. Most teams only played three preseason games as a result of going to 17 regular season games last season. Las Vegas and Jacksonville played in the HOF Game.

They're updated now. They weren't updated when I posted them shortly after Giants-Jets ended.

You got to figure he's going to get picked up by another team with the stats he produced in the preseason

Not necessarily. Pretty much every team has at least one guy at WR they'd like to keep and develop but can't. He's bounced on and off their practice squad for two years and they just cut him in favor of one or two other guys. I guess it's good he got released in the morning.

He's probably going to start the season on a practice squad somewhere. He may get promoted to a 53 man squad when receivers get injured.

Hinton cut by the Broncos. Gotta think him and Bachman both make PS and play in some games this year.

FWIW, NFL practice squad players are at will employees paid by the week (18 week season). They get paid $11,500 a week while on the practice squad. If they make it through the entire season on a practice squad, they would get $207K. The NFL minimum for a 1st year player on the 53 man roster is $705K for the season (in addition to whatever signing bonus the player received). Thus, a minimum $500K difference between practice squaders and rostered players.

Also, all NFL players get a $850 a week during the preseason as a living stipend (again, this is in addition to whatever the player received for his signing bonus as a draft pick or UDFA).

Is Hinton still eligible for the practice squad?

yes

From CBS Sports:

As for the practice squad, the league is going to keep the number at 16 after being 10 just a few years ago, per NFL Media. The players who can be added to this group are players who do not have an accrued season of NFL experience, free agents who were on the active list for fewer than nine regular-season games during their only accrued season or seasons, and a maximum of 10 free agents who have earned no more than two accrued seasons. Teams can also have a maximum of six veterans with an unlimited amount of accrued seasons on their practice squads, as long the players in the latter two categories don't exceed 10.

what comp, if any, does Sage get in this scenario:

Surratt played 17 offensive snaps and caught two of three targets for 15 yards during the Chargers' second preseason game, but he was sidelined for the final exhibition game due to an undisclosed injury. If he clears waivers, he'll revert to the Chargers' injured reserve list, which -- barring an injury settlement -- would end his 2022 season.

A player on the injured list gets his salary for as long as he is on the injured list, but if the team advises that they plan to cut the player when he is healthy, the player and the team often agree to an injury settlement. So, the player is available to sign with other NFL teams rather than stashed on another teams IR and unavailable to workout for other teams.

How much do NFL players get for injury settlements?

An Injury Settlement is usually based on the amount of time that the team and player agree the player will be unable to play. So, for example, if the player is only expected to miss the first month of the season, the team and player will usually agree to a settlement of 4/17ths of his anticipated salary (if he is a 1st year player it would be a percentage of the minimum salary).
