Is Rock Bottom when Manning says "No"?

Wikipedia has Danny Manning as the Wake Forest head coach 2014-
 
It also lists several of my college roommates as notable flair bartenders.
 
Man, you guys really haven't been paying attention. Manning turning us down wouldn't be rock bottom. It can always get worse. The way the coaching search has been going, I wouldn't be surprised if it did get worse.

I don't care who WF hires. They could not hire anyone and shut the program down and it would be fine with me....if the alternative was to try to emulate a school like Kentucky. We probably shouldn't be in the ACC in today's money-driven sports situation, anyway. We're never going to consistently compete under the current monetary dynamics, anyway...no matter who we have as a coach, because if he is good enough to win championships he either wouldn't have come here in the first place, or would be quickly swallowed up by a bigger fish in the sports world food chain.... and this is only going to lead to the increasing frustrations that have been building for years. There have been 76 NCAA Final Fours. Wake Forest has played in one of them....and that was 52 years ago. The ACC has been around for 61 years. WF has won 4 basketball championships....only two in the last 52 years, and they were the result of accidentally stumbling upon the best player in the school's history. And with the economic requirements to compete at the top level of college sports today, it would be even harder for WF to win championships than it has been during those 61 & 76 years. Any prospective coach understands this, whether some people on this board choose to accept that reality or not. No coach whose goal is to win championships would ever take the coaching job at Wake Forest....only one who wants to make a lot more money than he could make at some other school with similarly limited championship possibilities.

I have no problem with this. He played hard every game and was one of the main driving factors to helping reach #1 in the nation.

What on earth could possibly be your problem with this guy?

Was it the fact that he had tattoos? Big deal, lots of kids have them.

He said he wanted to major in the NBA? Guess what, people go to college to excel in a profession that they will work later in life. James Johnson plays in the NBA. That's what he does.

This is the problem. I think there are a lot of people in the administration that do have this mindset, in limiting the type of players we should get to the extreme that we end up with so many non-ACC caliber players.
 
Manning won't turn us down. It will definitely be a step-up in his career and IF(thanks, Dan) he is successful at Wake, he will use us as a stepping stone to take the Kansas or UNC job.
 
Dan says he is a little introverted, Carl Tacy was quiet and reserved but had great inner passion. All that matters is can he recruit, motivate and teach.
 
The people predicting Danny Manning will be the next coach at Kansas someday are really stretching. Really, really.
 
Perhaps "rock bottom" is that our basketball program doesn't make it "back"? We just tread water in a sea of mediocrity and irrelevance for next 15 years...
 
Rock bottom will be when we're forced into a bidding war with North Forsyth for their head coach because Wellman burned bridges with the collegiate coaching circle.

And I have a suggestion for you: quit treating a message board like your personal diary. It's obnoxious to open a thread on a message board, the very purpose of which is to share and discuss opinions and ideas with others, only to see that you've derailed the thread with 5 paragraphs of text deriding the state of college athletics, Wake Forest, and the ACC.

I apologize to others for derailing this thread by acknowledging the troll that is bobknightfan.
 
The vast majority of coaches' overall reputation waxes and wanes as their record goes one way or another. The problem for WFU right now is that we're trying to hire coaches who are waxing while we are waning. We need someone who can wax, would be a good fit here, and maybe has not waxed yet or is waning for the first time due to something that isn't damning.
