Men's Golf - Central Regional

Ugly first round so far, but still plenty of time to recover.

5 players and we have 6 double bogeys prior to everyone even getting to the back 9 yet. That's against only 5 birdies. Ouch.

Will be a battle between WF and Sacred Heart, yes Sacred Heart, for DFL after round 1. FWIW, Sacred Heart is the equivalent of a 16 seed in the basketball tournament. Pathetic performance any way that you slice it.

They're in the NCAA regionals. I'm pretty sure neither our football, basketball or baseball teams can say that, so go Deacs!

don't be so demanding--they have a shot of passing Missouri-Kansas City and the Kangaroos are loaded this year.

Were they delayed and didn't get to play a practice round? Yeesh.

AMEN

Women's golf is in the NCAA finals and the men are now in the NCAA regionals. Those are two of the better teams we have at Wake. Bring in women's soccer and that is about it for successful sports this year at Wake

This has not been close to a successful year for Men's Golf.

Within 10 strokes of 5th. If we can pick up a few more strokes today, certainly doable tomorrow.

Looks like we are going to end the day 9 shots out of 6th but 16 shots out of 5th. Assuming that 5 teams advance, it looks like we are done.

Much better round today - 6th best round in the tourney today. With a good round by Harrison or Keiser, we really could have shot lights out today. Depth seems to be our main issue - we often have 2 or 3 good round but our 4th score almost always drags us down.

Looks like big holes hurt us again - Harrison shot +6 with 3 dubs and Varol shot +2 with a trip!

Depth is where expensive private schools have a hard time. It is easy to pull in 1-3 great players with scholarship money but when you are trying to pull in those next few guys and asking them to foot most of the bill themselves, that becomes a harder sell.

Finished the regional tied for 8th place with Indiana and FSU.

Bedford and Beck had solid performances and tied for 9th and 14th, respectively, in the individual competition.

Michigan shot an insane -9 as a team today to win the regional over Illinois by two strokes.

Off to a slow start early in the first round. Hopefully Keiser can find something with his last 9 holes that will help him in the remaining 2 rounds. Top 5 advance I think. Tough spot for Keiser as he's only played in 1 other college tournament and only walked on the team this year.

Journal article about Keiser:

Don't want to be negative here as he sounds like a great guy, but why is a walk-on playing for us in the NCAA tournament?

The back end of our roster is horrific as is.

Kris is a great guy (as the article says) and he's actually really good

I believe Lee will be going to finals as an individual since he's the top individual not on an advancing team.
