Official 2014 NFL Draft Thread

Florio has a point. So did McShay in the initial tweets. The author of the piece is pathetic and not very smart. Of course draft analysts play a crucial role in perpetuating the problem.

This part in particular is stupid:

In the end, this is a pretty silly attack from Florio aimed at Todd McShay. As if some random dude’s big board is a bigger deciding factor in declaring for the NFL early than say, getting paid for playing football versus paying for free. I’d say that would be a major factor in deciding to turn pro.
For that matter – why single out McShay and his rankings over a few tweets? Why single out the draft industry when there’s a whole recruiting industry out there that is much, much bigger and attempts to rank thousands and thousands of high school kids.

First of all, players think they're going to get paid to play football because their names are on the experts' big board. Of course when an agent or family member or friend is trying to convince an underclassman to declare early, they point to the experts, "Hey man, I heard McShay say you're a sure thing to go in the first three rounds. You gotta go pro."

Second, you can't compare the NFL draft industry to recruiting websites. Most of those kids end up getting a scholarship to play football somewhere. You can't say every kid who gets a 5th round grade from Mel Kiper gets an NFL contract.

Yet Florio does a mock draft...that includes underclassmen who may not get drafted. Of course, he also uses McShay's stuff, and others, on PFT. Again, right or wrong, he's a hypocrite. Period.

Which isn't the author's point.

So your whole point is that a sports writer is a douche? That's not going on a limb.
