? on R. Washington and D. Mitchell

Childress and Wilbekin would get fewer minutes because Woods wouldn't need to play SF.

From what I have seen RW isn't ready. Just not physical enough yet. But that is correctable. It will be up to him. He needs to get the bearded wonder to work some magic.

Ok, there must be a silent suspension or academic thing going on. We start our ACC season against 2 teams full of athletic wing players, play well, get big leads, face some foul trouble and injury adversity and our own 2 young wings can't even get off the bench? I love some of what Danny has done to lift us from the darkness but Dear God! what are they even here for? I've followed or been part of ACC hoops for 50 yrs and matchups can keep you from losing and even win you some games. So why do we not minimize our matchup weaknesses and play to our strengths? They may look like deer in the headlights but at least they are deer!

Bump because I only realized after the Duke game that these guys are actually on the team.

Thanks for the article.

I know both of these guys still need to fill out their frame - but would either one of them have been useful this year as a defensive specialist against the forwards who have been torching us? Too late for that now since our rotation is pretty set but I've been wondering about Washington particularly.

Hard to believe Washington can't play some at SF so that we don't have MW guarding players 7" taller than him.

Funny to me that DeLaurier has played 7 total ACC minutes. I feel like we really wanted him.

Miller, too.

You could look at these 2 guys not playing as a sign of our improved depth. This is a good thing.
Also, to repeat what DM said, they're only freshmen. Give em time to develop.

Several of us thous it was crazy for DeLaurier to go to Duke. They had Jefferson and had Tatum and Giles and were going strongly after Bolden. There weren't going to be any minutes for him.

To clarify, I know we weren't really close on DeLaurier, but I think we had an interest and he was a top 50 guy. Lots of offers from good programs.

Miller was top 100.

Seems like they'd both have expected to see the floor more this year.

DeLaurier's recruitment was one of those good player still available late blowing up with big time offers for not being that good. His offer sheet was that of a 5 star for being like an solid 4 star.

Think there was a mini meltdown over here when same thing happened to Shaun Kirk, the staff wasn't ready to pull the trigger on him and then boom he was offered late by all these high majors. He has done squat in college so far.

R.Washington was a guest on the radio show this past week. A question was asked about what was the biggest challenge since you've came to Wake. It was an open ended question but basketball wise Rich said that the physicality of ACC basketball was definitely one of the biggest challenges.

Its possible 1 or both could end up being contributors. But given our obvious hole on the wing and their inability to provide even spot minutes, I wouldn't bet good money on it.

I guess. But we know Manning likes to go deep. There's no doubt they'd play if they were ready. Rondale Watson played significant minutes. He averaged 14.9 min last year. Collins only averaged 14.4

Manning played 10 players over 11 min/game. Doral played 7.

Yep. It's not unusual for 3* players to ride the bench as freshmen because it's not unusual for 3* players to step on campus and disappoint. I'd like to see a list of ACC players who played less than 20 min total as freshmen and ended up being ACC contributors. If there are some really good names on there, then I'll buy the argument that Wash and Mitchell aren't unusual for the right reasons.

Chas McFarland is the only WF possibility who comes to mind. Levy, Visser, and Gary Clark all had limited roles as freshmen before eventually becoming useful players, but they at least got on the court some

Levy was a lot higher than 3*. He was Top 50 on at least on a couple of rankings, I think. I'm pretty sure he missed preseason due to the illness and death of his mom.

You just won't let up, will you? You criticized Manning for not shortening his rotation. Then, when he did, you said he was doing what you called for all along. Now that he's shortened his bench and project freshmen are allowed to just develop, you criticize him for not recruiting players good enough to play their freshmen year.

Your schtick is plain as day.
