18 teams between Africa and Asia is a joke. What a watered down tourney that will be
 
Yea Asia seems most boggling. Who are they trying to attract? Can anyone list 8.5 Asian nations worthy of WC consideration?

But there is barely a non-zero chance that any Asian team contends...MAYBE Korea or Japan, who didn't need the help.
 
It's pretty clear it should be Europe, Africa/South America, Concacaf, Asia, Oceania, and whatever random ass host country...in that order.

ETA: There are only 4 Asian teams in FIFA's top 48 right now, and two barely squeak in at 45 and 47.

This is just pathetic money-grabbing scheme. But what else is new.

As we've said before, it's time for Germany, England, France, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, etc...to tell FIFA to fuck themselves and start a new tournament.

That was my thought too. Group winners get a bye, so it means a lot more. But one game doesn't bury you in a four game group, lots more tension, final matches played at same time within group...you lose all of that with a 3 team, single-elimination group. Watered down and dumb.
 
As someone who pretty much only watches international soccer, and does so infrequently, there is something charming and interesting about having a small nation make a little upset run in the World Cup.
 
Bill Hamid has withdrawn from camp due to injury. Bad timing all around him.
