Wake Forest students roll the quad to celebrate basketball coach's firing

Wake Forest coach Jeff [Redacted] resigned on Thursday after going 51-76 in four seasons at the one-time ACC power, including a mind-boggling 2-32 conference road record. When the news was announced, students in Winston-Salem celebrated like they do the big victories that were mostly absent during [Redacted]’s reign. They took the toilet paper out of storage closets and bathrooms, went outside and rolled the quad

When told of the rolling of the quad, Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman said “we have passionate students.”

A large chunk of the Wake fanbase has been anti-[Redacted] since the day he was hired by his pal, Wellman, to replace Dino Gaudio in 2010. He didn’t have great success at his last college stop in Colorado and a loss to Stetson in his first game only emboldened the doubters. Throughout the 2012-13 season, there were “fire [Redacted]” billboards put up around the Triad. Wake fans took out ads in the school newspaper and paid for a front-page ad in the Greensboro News & Record advocating his ousting. Another billboard went up in Winston-Salem near the end of this season.

Relieved frustration or not, dancing on someone’s grave is always uncouth though. [Redacted] failed in his attempt to keep Wake competitive in the ACC, but he’s a good man with a family. He’s been a fine representative of the university. There weren’t many wins when he was around but there also weren’t any of the embarrassing incidents that checkered the tenure of Dino Gaudio.

Still, unless you can say you made it through your college experience without ever doing something that looks bad in retrospect, save the lectures to the students of Wake Forest. They attend a basketball school that hasn’t been competitive in basketball since the day they arrived on campus. Uncouth though they may be, they’re due for a little celebration.

And yet another person that hasn't paid any attention at that buys the culture BS.

There were plenty of embarrassing incidents, just last week we lost by 29 points in the ACC tournament to a bubble team

Combination of inept administration, LOWF, and an uninterested media led to this. Anyone with a finger on the pulse of the situation saw this coming and knows it absolutely could have been prevented. The people feigning shock are at fault or are being disingenuous.

That curb stomped a team built on Buzz's "foundation"

I expected more TP on the quad. I was hoping it would look like a blanket of freshly fallen snow. This is the best thing to happen to WFU basketball in 4 years.

Wow who wrote that stuff?

Yahoo Sports just added their own piece.

"During my year-end review with Ron, we discussed the overall status of the program which I believe is very positive," said [Redacted]. "The right players are in place who have the values that are important at Wake Forest. At the end of the discussion, I told Ron that I am resigning because there needs to be a positive environment for the players to realize their potential."

Um, that quote sounds like BzOut did its job.

Wake Forest Students Rolled The Quad With Toilet Paper After [Redacted] Resignation

Earlier today, Wake Forest head basketball coach Jeff [Redacted] officially resigned from his position after four rough years at the helm. Just a few hours later, it’s fairly obvious that the student body is happy with his decision.

Wake undergrads have a tradition of “rolling” the quad – aka throwing toilet paper into the trees – after big wins either on the football field or the basketball court. It looks like they considered [Redacted]’s departure a worthy victory.

Yes, we did.

"Fuck you buddy" was more embarrassing than anything that happened under Dino.

There were no embarrassing incidents while Dino Gaudio was our coach. Well, except for a few bad blowouts.

+1. Additionally, an athletic director who continually withdrew from his constituents and reminded them that his shit really smells just like roses.

Bz may be gone but we still have a totally inept athletic director and a department that is a textbook case in how not to handle public relations.

Today was a great next step but there's much more swamp to be drained.
