Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

Pick both Bubba and Reed and make them play together since no one likes them. Problem solved.

Reed and Spieth played well together last time out. And Bubba has Fowler.

LK, in addition to the names you mentioned, I think you add Kucher and Sneds. I kinda get your concerns with them, and this is going to be played on a long track, and they're average hitters. But who else do you take over them? Kucher has had a good summer, except he has pretty much sucked for team cville in the Opens and the PGA. And Sneds can roll it with the best of them. Absent late surges from the others, the only other names I'd consider are Piercy and Hoffman - and Hoffman only if he has a strong late surge. Piercy has had a nice year and is long, so he'd be the other 1 I'd be eyeing right about now. No way I even consider Dufner with his putter. And Furyk would be WAY down my list. And Just Say No to Na.

Hoffman is nearly 40, has never sniffed an international competition, and his 4 wins are on easy, shootout courses. He's not a Ryder Cup player to me.

As of now, you are looking at Kuchar, Furyk, Snedeker and Fowler playing for final 3 spots. Obviously a lot can change, but that's how it seems at this moment.

Eh, it's no big deal if Furyk makes the team over Kuchar. Trade one boring dude for another. Fowler has to make this team though.

I think Justin Thomas is going to get some serious love (no pun intended) the next few weeks. His resume doesn't stack up to those other guys, but he just seems like one of those young guys who could be on the next handful of these teams. A strong showing in the next few weeks would have to get him some consideration. And I think Dufner is in the picture too but only if he shows some form on the greens.

Fowler is a lock --- he is on Ryder Cup committee, so see no way he does not make it. Think Bubba basically a lock as well

Kuchar and Sned are both Sea Island guys, and thus pretty close with Davis (the don of the so called Sea Island Mafia). Would be interesting to see if Davis would take those two ahead of Furyk. As good as Furyk's 58 was, its just one round, and he has been playing poorly prior to that. I think he will need to play well down stretch (at least one top 10) to get picked.

I'd love to see one of the younger guys (Thomas or Berger most notably) get hot and make it, but think they both would need either a win or a couple of top 5s to do it.

It's baffling to me that the Olympic organizers didn't make golf a team event somehow. Here we are talking about an event 6+ weeks away instead of the debut of Olympic golf.

Are there any Ryder Cup/FedEx/World Rankings points available at the Olympics?

You could have done it 2 ways. You could have made it like the NCAAs and had both a team and individual winner. Or you could have just had a team event where you take the top 4 golfers from the 16 deepest countries and had a team match play event. Or if you were hell bent on only having an individual winner, you could have done it like the match play in Austin. But in addition to the Zika, security, Brazilian politics, fecal water and infrastructure issues, the IOC decided to run the golf like a normal weekly tour event. Sochi had far fewer problems.

This format was incredibly dumb. Bet it will be changed for Tokyo.

Agree, but since it's in Tokyo, I think just as many pros will opt out due to the British Open being about the week before the start of the Olympics. I think many of them probably will not want to travel around the globe.

I'd take Chappell over Kuchar. I'm okay with Sneds.

I was just about to post something like this r.e. Justin Thomas. I'm a big fan.

If you want another asshole on the team in the mold of Patrick Reed... Pick Berger. Kid's got a serious cocky streak in him.

Berger absolutely folded under pressure this week. No thanks.

He also made the tour championship as a rookie and will probably play in multiple Ryder Cups in his career. Might want to get the kid experience now. But, let's see how the next month shakes out. It'll be fun to watch.

Being an asshole is not the only criteria. A good golfer would also be helpful. He showed a lot of grit winning the Memorial. But not so much at the Traveler's

This. The kid may be a rising star, but he's not there yet. There are better options. And I don't get why we "have" to have Fowler. If he makes it by points, fine. But he has a very mediocre RC record as pointed out. How many PGA events has he won?

The first 5 appear to be locks on points. After that I want ZJ, JB, Bubba, Reed and Fowler. I'm stumped on the final 2. I think Jason Dufner has a very solid record in team play, but he's putting soooo poorly.

I can't put my finger on it, but I'm just really sour on Snedeker making the team.

Sometimes I wonder if we shouldn't put Na on the team just to piss off the Euros with his slow, deliberate play. But he is a sneaky good grinder and may actually thrive in a format like team match play. But he would need a very special partner, someone easy going and laid back, but also a bit deliberate. Does that even exist in the top 12? Certainly not Sneds, Haas and Bubba as they all play pretty damn fast. Bill has the temperament but not sure he'll be on the team. Hope he hits stride the next couple weeks and gets on the team.
