Season long College football thread

What's impressive about beating Troy, Eastern Kentucky, ODU, and South Alabama?

Not a damn thing. Which just means his point was stupid. The Pack may very well be a good team, but that level of competition doesn't show that.

49-21, 35-0, 38-14, 63-13. And they are 4-0. Or you can look at Arkansas who loses to a good but unknown Toledo team 16-12. Or Maryland who gets scorched by unknown but a really Bowling Green team 48-27. Shorty, you get noticed by the way you finish the season the year before, where they won 4 of their last 5 including a bowl win over a good UCF team in the Bitcoin Bowl, and by starting the next season 4-0 and not having trouble with these type teams.

Dave Doeren has gone from 0-8 his first year to 8 wins & a 3-5 ACC mark in his 2nd year and starts out 4-0 in his 3rd season. He is getting noticed playing the same kind of non-con schedule we play [save for the Notre Dame game we have to play]

Indiana is much better than anybody State has played so far.

State is headed in the right direction but their OOC slate is an absolute joke. The teams they've played don't belong in the same universe as Indiana, Syracuse, Toledo or Bowling Green.

Typical Reff stupid

Things that spoiled fans of "powerhouse" football programs say.

Eh, Tennessee's last decade has been truly unique in pain and suffering. For instance, we lost a bowl game because college hadn't adopted the 10 second run off for a penalty at the end of a game yet. I mean, the ref waived his arms and said "GAME OVER, TENNESSEE WINS" on national TV. Because of our horrific loss, they changed the rule. Against Florida, if we didn't have a timeout saved, we would have become he first team to lose on a 10 second run off. WTF.

The four teams State has played are a combined 6-8. Against their own shit competition.

Shorty, remember that Troy is in the same league that La Monroe is in--the Sunbelt [both started this season below 100 in the ESPN power index]. We lost to La Monroe not once but twice. I don't care what 4 teams NC State has played, they beat them. We have played the same kind of teams the last 2 years, except for ND this year and haven't fared so well have we? Until we do, I wouldn't be so quick to talk smack when they have an 8-5 record and won their bowl game last season and went 3-5 in the ACC after going 0-8 the season before. That is the kind of improvement any team would want.

Oh yea, let's talk Army & Elon also to go along with the La Monroe's and Gardner Webb's that have dotted our schedule also. We all play these kinds of teams, as does Duke. Army lost to 1AA Fordham to start the season. We have played them 4 years in a row, but we should--that is exactly who us & Duke ought to be playing. And besides, Syracuse was a conference game which of course NC State will have to play soon. Typical wsc nonsense. Indiana entered the season picked 6th in the Big 10 East just ahead of Rutgers & just ahead of MD--we shall see. But they are at least from a Power 5 conference.

Since you've apparently forgotten what you were talking about, you were saying they deserved to be in the top 25 based off what they've done. They've played less than no one. They don't deserve to sniff it yet. /enddiscussion

State is improved, but that schedule is embarrassing:

Troy
Eastern KY
ODU
South Alabama

Probably the weakest of any OOC schedule for any BCS school. This is now two consecutive years with no OOC games against a BCS opponent. If State insists on playing that crappy of a non-conference schedule at least play ECU. Reasonable State fans (there are a couple) admit the schedule is pathetic. The fact that State ran it up against bad teams does not make it any less of a joke. FWIW, if State is really legit this year (and they may be), they did the entire conference a disservice by not playing and beating another BCS team. The conference scores no points by beating ODU and USA.

Under-the-radar storyline for this coming week is whether Arkansas will continue to be thwarted by teams that begin with the letter 'T'.

So what? La Monroe Sucks. We suck. That has nothing to do with the discussion.

Sure it does. Same conference as Troy, same basic power rankings over 100 and it is how you beat those kinds of teams that get you noticed when starting to get votes for the Top 25. Or in our case and other teams, lose to those type teams that are Sunbelt & lower Conf USA teams that warrant no respect at all. We shall see this weekend now what NC State is all about as they host Louisville and are also favored by 4.5. Depending on the pre-season books, NC State was picked 3rd ahead of Louisville in the Atlantic or 4th right behind Louisville. Everybody has been disrespecting Duke for the last few years for their non-con schedule also, but they had quieted the critics from 2 respects--they got to the title game in 2013, and were one game from it last year. Then this year shut down GT at home last week when they were 8 point underdogs. They play the same non-con schedule that us & State play.

No. Duke played Northwestern. Northwestern plays in the Big 10 -- a BCS conference. Northwestern beat Stanford. Northwestern is ranked. Stanford is ranked.

WF will play Notre Dame. Notre Dame is a BCS independent. They are a nationally ranked (and also beat GT).

The point is that unlike every other ACC team: State played no one OOC (Troy, EKU, ODU and USA). The concept is not that hard to grasp. If State crushes L'ville (who played Auburn and Houston and will play KY) on Saturday, all it means is that State lost the opportunity to prove itself on the field by playing a joke of an OOC schedule. The fact that State actually may be good makes the decision to play 4 pathetic teams all of the worse. Playing a pussy OOC schedule is not what legit programs do. It's what teams that know they can't hang with the big dogs do.

We played one big ten team (Indiana) and we're going to Notre Dame, one of the elite programs in the country. State has played 3 teams from the lowest FBS conferences and an FCS team. It's not even comparable. I'm not a State hater, reserve that for Duke and UNC, but that is pretty pathetic. State should be playing at least one team from another BCS conference each year.

NCSU schedule blows this year. Part Lee Fowler being an idiot, part Yow not finding a decent team, part LSU backing out, part DD thinking we were still not very good and being okay. Either way you slice it, it's a shit schedule. Real season starts this week.

It's only a one year thing, have ND and ECu next year and then partnerships with Miss St and WVU in coming years.

Agree, except it's a two year thing as State played no one OOC last year either.
