wake golf

Golf Pro-Am dinner was real nice tonight. Coach Dailey & Laura Diaz spoke first about her time at Wake and also playing on the Solheim Cup for the USA. Then all 3 of the Haas family spoke with the intro being the end of the President's Cup we all saw on TV. Joe Inman, Gary Hallberg, Jay Sigel, Leonard Thompson, Len Mattice were some of the other Wake golfers who were there. Dianne introduced all of her women's golfers and Jerry introduced the rest of his team that were not playing in their event they tied/won today. Pro-Am is being held in the morning at Old Town Club.

Many nice things were raffled by both silent raffle & also a round of golf with Jerry & Webb Simpson at Quail Hollow went for huge money in a regular raffle. There were also 2 foursomes raffled at 2 private courses in Illinois.

Question for Tin Cup. How does Coach Haas decide who plays in the tournaments? If I am not mistaken, there are some qualifying rounds during the week (or weeks) leading up to the tourney? Is there any consideration given to past tourney performance? For instance, Cameron Young has the low tourney for Wake this week and finishes tied for first. If he turns around and has a bad qualifying round(s), would he not play in the next tourney? Or same goes for Zalatoris. He has been the most consistent tourney golfer over the last season and a half. Is there any chance that he would not "qualify" for a future tourney? It just seems a little weird to me that Sterbinsky played such good golf (at least based on score) at the Primland tourney and then didn't play in the either of the next 2 tourneys. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

They will generally play a preseason qualifier to determine the first event lineup. After that, will be a combination of performance, qualifying and coach's decision. Zalatoris is not going to be left out of the lineup, now Young wont either. You want to reward good play while keeping everyone focused and competing. With 1 more fall event left, dont think you will see the lineup change for that one after the past 2 weeks.

Another nice showing in the last tournament of the fall out in Hawaii. Not a super strong field but still finished second to Alabama.

Has to be the best a Wake team has played since the Bill Haas days--now ranked 2nd nationally. Cameron Young won the individual championship and was named ACC player of the month. He is the top ranked freshman in the country. Also glad to see Sterbinsky get a chance to play and he delivered.

There are 3 qualifying positions and 2 coach's picks for each tournament. If a player finishes in the top 15 in a tournament, then they automatically claim one of the 3 qualifying positions for the next tournament.
