Wellman's Shocking Neglect of Duty

ummmm everyone who knows wellman botched the [Redacted] hire are the ones reading about it whenever it comes out. He wants to announce it during the tournament so those that don't know he's a bozo won't read about it. Tomorrow is Wellman's version of take out the trash day.

This board has thread diarrhea. How many threads do you people need to make expressing your hatred of Buzz or your latest conspiracy theory of Wellman (and Hatch)?

you have thread in your diarrhea?

I guess I just don't understand what other people would have Wake fans talking about right now.

Are these threads repeated a lot and a lot of one thought, one thread? Sure. But we're almost done with what is pretty much the darkest time period in Wake basketball history notwithstanding Prosser's death, and everybody is just giddy.

Anybody who comes here is coming for information on the coaching situation at this point, so what's to be gained by continuing to question how many threads are made? If you don't want to read the topic (as this one is pretty clear as to what it will be about from the title) then don't click on the thread. That is unless it's a whole bundle of stupid (re: all of Boogity's posts) and you're coming in to conquer the thread starter.

While Ron Wellman swans around on TV playing the role of Big Shot NCAA Guy, the flagship athletic program of his employer -- one that has paid him millions of dollars -- is a national embarrassment.

Today Jeff [Redacted] is quoted in the local paper clearly implying he is coming back, despite his horrendous record and despite rampant speculation and expectation in online and sports media around the nation that he will be fired.

And Ron Wellman is "unavailable" to the local newspaper reporter even though he is TV constantly in his NCAA role.

This is shocking. This is irresponsible. Ron Wellman's primary duty is to his employer, Wake Forest University, and to the alumni, donors and fans of Wake Forest University. He needs to make a public statement NOW as to what his plans are. If he is going to fire [Redacted] (which by all that is right and logical he should) then he owes it to the man getting fired to tell him and get it over with now, out of simple decency. He should have told him last week and ended this ongoing disaster. Letting [Redacted] twist in the wind is unconscionable.

If he is going to retain [Redacted], then he should have the courage to come back to Winston-Salem and hold a press conference and explain openly why he is keeping this failed coach.

Either way, he needs to show some leadership and some loyalty to his employer. What is happening and how it is happening is as an outrageous display of arrogance or cluelessness.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander--all the LOWF folks should be crowing that their AD is overseeing the tournament committee.

There's nothing shocking about it.

Premier Wellman is all about feeding his own ego. That's what motivates him. Appearing on national television as the head of the selection committee accomplishes that. Coming back to Winston and taking his medicine for an abominable hire does not.

Guys-- you do not need a press conference to announce that Bzzz is staying. From RW's point of view, there is nothing that needs addressing. The fact that all of your fan base is upset is of no interest. The fact that the right thing to do is to make a statement one way or the other does not cross RW's radar. Now Hatch may not want to interfere with the decision on Bzzz, but he sure as hell can tell RW to inform the Wake community of what his decision is. Lets flood Hatch's office with requests for RW to show some respect for the Wake community.

"Wake community?" Wellman and Hatch have made it rather clear that any notion of a "Wake community" is a crock of shit.

Appalling is the right adjective. I'm certainly not shocked that Ronnie and his fellow AD buds are in Dayton finger-fucking each other.

I look at it this way. If Wellman had canned Bzz, every contact he would have with a coach in the tourney could be looked at by the coachs school as an attempt to poach the coach. Now, he can cozy up to a prospective replacement without anybody complaining about it.

no you fantasize that it is this way. I've said it before and I'll say it again; placing an arbitrary title next to someone's name often elevates our opinion of that persons intellectual capacity and ability, even when the substance of their work and behavior suggest differently. The AD position at Wake Forest is a prestigious position, that at times, can require someone who is exceptional to take on extraordinarily difficult tasks. At other times, the nature of the job and its prestige can make extremely ordinary people look exceptional.

I do not believe that Ron Wellman is exceptional or in any respect, a "genius" at his craft. I do believe he is an extremely ordinary person who happens to be articulate and very personable amongst his peers, desirable traits for such a position, but as we are seeing, they are traits that are insufficient alone to competently carry a person through all of the requirements of the job.

Not to reduce the man or his part in our relative success over the past 22 years but, RON WELLMAN IS A FORMER BASEBALL COACH WHO EARNED A DEGREE IN P.E. FROM BOWLING GREEN STATE. If he never got into the Collegiate Admin line of work, I could not see him being a lawyer, doctor, professor or business tycoon, but I do believe he would be an extremely successful used car salesman. That's who he is and that is what I think he has given us over the years which has been great. But it is 2014 and we need a lot more right now.

Moonz, I really don't think I'm the leading candidate for the rum and sleeping pills.

Furthermore, I think that allot if the praise, accolades, and various titles he has earned/received over the years may be the catalyst for his arrested development as a modern day Athletic Director. He has not grown at all. i thought it very telling that one of Clawson's first missions were to "modernize" our recruiting efforts.

He still reacts and behaves like it is 1995 and he is completely oblivious that a technology/mass media revolution ever occurred. Despite his perceived ability to glad hand and spin, everything seemingly PR that comes out of that office seems mickey mouse and amateur hour. Fuck the fact he attempts to spin his mistakes. I'm more embarrassed and appalled at how ineffective he is at it in today's climate. We are so grossly underprepared and equipped for the billion dollar business that is D1 College sports today that it is scary.

Another excellent point. Hence the reason there has been no response to rampant internet rumors that have left the staff blowing in the wind. So many things wrong with the way Wellman operates. I would argue that the fact that Wellman wants to run a one-man show has hindered the growth of the department and the individuals within it. I want to say more, but I'm too exhausted. Keep up the good works, gents

One of the criticisms of the Gaudio firing and eventual [Redacted] hire was that it appeared that we went after some big fish that didn't work out and we were scrambling at the end of the process. What if this time around our guys wanted to lock someone up to a deal before dropping the ax on Buzz?
