WF Tennis (WS Open Starts Saturday)

A win here (or actually more like avoiding a loss) would pretty much clinch top 16 for Wake

WF Tennis 2015 (#12 Wake at #37 ND Friday at 3:30)

Nice win. The top 4 singles players all won pretty easily in straight sets. Rubin with another extremely impressive win, crushing the #9 player in the country Quentin Monaghan.

Seraphim was up 4-1 and then lost 7-5, 6-1. Wake will need him to improve his outdoor game some more to compete for championships over the next few weeks.

Assuming a win over last place Boston College, Wake can get no lower than the #4 seed in the ACC tournament. Deacs will be #3 if Duke only if loses at Georgia Tech - the #3 is huge because it means avoiding Virginia until the final. #2 seed is Virginia Tech, which Wake already beat this year.

That loss to NC State really hurt us in that regard.

Wake beat BC 7-0 today and GT just upset Duke 4-3. VT and FSU are in a close match, but it looks to me like VT might end up winning 4-3. The records on the ACC website are incorrect, but I think that with the results today Wake is guaranteed to finish either 3rd or 2nd in the ACC.

if we finish 2 or 3, we avoid uva until the finals roght?

Holy shit, awesome. Best possible results in every match, right?

Deacs get good luck? Is this real life?

Correct. Though we obviously have to beat UVA to win the ACC championship, not matter which round we end up facing them.

Glad that VTech held on as I actually prefer 3rd to 2nd as we match up better against #6 Louisville (7-0) than #7 ND (4-3). Very surprised that this happened. Wonder what's up with Alvarez and Mengel. UNC vs. Duke in the quarterfinals and the winner vs. UVA in the semis. Tough road for someone.

Great results for the Deacs today. The three teams that are arguably the most talented in the conference when at full strength (UVA, Duke, UNC) are all in the other half of the bracket

Wake finished 3rd in the ACC with a 9-3 record. The 9 ACC wins is the most in program history. Wake plays the winner of Louisville and Clemson on Friday at 9 AM in Cary.

Great season, but the number of conference wins is kind of a bogus stat as the ACC added a bunch of teams in recent years. Would love to see the Deacs break UVA's stranglehold on the ACC.

Neither Syracuse nor Pitt have men's tennis. Maryland had men's tennis but then dropped it, and ND and Louisville both have good programs. So the net gain was 1 team with the addition of Cuse, Pitt, ND, and Louisville and the loss of MD. But you're correct that it is kind of a bogus stat since the Deacs got one more ACC match this year than they did compared to the past several years.

Noah Rubin just won his 3rd straight ACC player of the week award. He has received the award 4 of the past 6 weeks, and he has more ACC player of the week awards than any other SCHOOL this year. The new rankings are out and Wake men are 11, Rubin is 13, Bogaerts is 15, Ho is 92, and Seraphim/Mansouri are 11.

Rafi, do you think Rubin is the frontrunner for ACC POY? Or does the matches he missed due to injury make that unlikely?
