WF Tennis (WS Open Starts Saturday)

GT match is very close. Wake barely won doubles and now it will be decided by a couple of third set matches.

Wake isn't playing as well as they did earlier in the ACC season, though that might be the difference between home and away matches.

Hard to say if they are playing as well or not without being at the matches. Teams are clicking right now and every ACC opponent is a challenge

WF Tennis 2015 (Bogaerts up to #8, Rubin up to #27)

That's true, good point (except that BC and probably Miami won't be challenges).

Georgia Tech has been underrated all year, they almost beat Georgia early in the season. This was never going to be an easy match, good to get a win

Playing at home in college tennis is a huge deal, not even taking into account that if you are #17 or lower you will have to beat someone ranked 1-16 on the road. We should be good though based on what we have left even if we lose to UNC. One negative from yesterday, VTech beat Louisville so it is going to be hard for us to slide into the 2/3 slot in the ACC tourney meaning we'll have to play the 5 and then UVA in the semis.

Very true. If I remember correctly it was a 4-3 loss to uga, and they are currently ranked 6th.

Of course, GT always plays above their heads vs. UGA. It seems to be their raison d'etre.

True. GT also always seems to beat Wake in Atlanta, so it's good to get out of there with a win.

Not sure what's up with Kan. Tabrizi played, and lost badly, at 6 in the last two matches. If Kan can't go, I would like to see Delcore or Bloom at 6.

Noah Rubin got to go to the White House Easter Egg Roll yesterday as a guest of the USTA and played a little tennis with President Obama while wearing his Wake gear. Muggsy was there too. Pretty cool

A Wake grad is pretty high up in the USTA, and is in some of those photos. I'm sure he helped recruit Rubin and Muggsy for that gig.

Big weekend for the Deacs against Miami and UNC (and the Citadel). Opportunity for Rubin and Bogaerts to gain in the singles rankings too against UNC's ranked players. Hoping the team is peaking down the stretch. Go out and cheer them on if you can.

Sunday against UNC should be a particularly good match.

Wake is currently up on Miami 3-0. On Sunday, Wake has a really big match-up with #16 UNC at home at 2 PM, which I expect will be a close match. UNC is playing well and just beat #6 Duke 5-2 yesterday.

Wake is elite at 1 doubles, and 1, 2, and 5 singles, and pretty good at 2 doubles and 3 singles. With that combo, Wake can beat a lot of teams.

Wake women had some clutch performances against Syracuse today with a couple of 3 set wins. The match was tied 3-3 and it all came down to a third set tie breaker at 1 singles. Kimmy Guerin held off a few match points in the third set and eventually made it to, and won, the tie break 7-5.

The women close out their home schedule tomorrow at 11 am against nc state. The men will then take the court against #16 unc at 2 pm.

Big match today vs. UNC at 2pm. Hope everyone can make it out. We need a big, loud crowd. UNC is a top 10 team when Brayden Schnur is healthy, which he showed on Thursday beating Nico Alvarez vs. Duke. Along with Andrew Harris at Oklahoma, Schnur is probably Rubin's toughest test. He had a good fall playing ATP tournaments, including at least 1 top 100 win. They are down a man with Oystein hurt, and Esben HO as well. I think they will go Schnur, Schneider, Clark, Murray, Kelly, and DePaulo. We will need to win the dubs point, and then should be favored at 6, but the other 5 are toss ups. If we win today, and win out vs ND and BC, we should still have a shot at a top 3 ACC finish, and possibly a top 10 NCAA ranking.
