Does Pat Buchanan seriously believe he represents a "silent majority" on race?!? If so, why didn't that "majority" turn out in 2009 and especially 2012? I get the excuse is McCain and Mitt were too moderate, but a majority still would have carried the day. By willfully ignoring changing demographics and poll data, the GOP is going to draw the wrong conclusions again for the third straight time. Unbelievable.

Mostly personal, anecdotal. The first thing that came to mind was my home town (my own family, sadly, as well). It's seemingly impossible to have an honest discussion about race without a lot of "you" statements. What I mean by that is "[insert race here] needs to stop [insert stereotype here]." There are never any "we" statements, any kind of thoughts of how the gap can be closed between different races by their own actions, just a lot of expectations for the other side, as if they've got it all figured out. My favorite is the phrasing "I'm not racist, but [insert insanely racist rhetoric here]." The lack of empathy and self awareness is just staggering.

Interesting. In my experience, there are plenty of "we" statements when talking about race.
 
Even statements that deal with "blaming" others are in terms of what "we" can do to help them.

That's great to hear. It's a rare thing where I come from. It's much better where I live now, but back home they're barely past integration...at least that's how it feels.

I love Gary Larson. Definitely be on the lookout for rapidly forming storm clouds and stray bolts of lighting on the way home.

I realize that the vast majority of Christians don't feel the same way as the above email, but for those that do I fail to understand the appeal. If you worship God purely out of fear then what is the point? Figured we had left the fire and brimstone stuff behind a couple centuries ago.
 
Seems like their twisted perspective is that the fire and brimstone is for all the sinners and heathens out there (you know, gays, abortionists, brown people), rather than for them.
