Top 3 Choices

That makes more sense, sorta. They lost in the round of 32. That is not success at Carolina. Also, what was their record the next year with mostly Gut recruits, butthead?

Good points. The SEC is down and so is Vandy. A couple of years ago, you had UK winning the NC and Vandy had several consecutive years of solid teams. I don't recall how many of those teams went to the NCAA, but I know Wake didn't sniff the Tourney since the Cleveland Steamer debacle. Tennessee is not a great bball talent state outside of Memphis and the occasional Middle Tennessee player. That being said, Vandy is a bigger school in a vibrant city and has a better overall athletic program. Slightly easier to hide athletes than at Wake. Certainly the allure of the ACC and Tobacco Road should play heavily in Wake's favor with the right coach. Vandy should be able to recruit kids from Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi who can handle the academics, with the right coach.

The conference landscape has seismically shifted in the last few years. Despite how great some teams can and will be in the SEC, outside of UK and UF, they are the pips. The ACC is back to being what the SEC is in FB. I would give that nod to WF over other non ACC academically elite schools for a while. Stanford is the exception because they have less competition for that niche of student on the west coast.

LOLOL, Gumbel completely fucked up. Way to go, moran.

"Your brother Archie, or Sean.....Archie"

Moran

Gumbel must have thought he was talking to Sean the entire time.

Unfortunately, we are not backing that status up in the tournament. Fortunately, UVA made it through, but Duke and Syracuse went out pretty early. Top teams lose early every year, but those guys losing does not help the argument that the ACC schedule prepares teams for a long tourney run. The more of our guys go down, the more it is apparent that you can go far from many places outside of the ACC.

That was hilarious: 1. Called him Sean, 2. Said he and his brother are both in Sweet 16 even though Arizona hasn't played yet 3. Clearly heard Archie in his earpiece so just yelled ¨your brother Archie!" right to Archie.

Good lord Gumbel

Then he followed that up by just blurting "SEAN!"

Then the silence followed by the "Hello?" "We're Here" /endscene sequence.

At least he just called himself out on it.

If Archie followed the question by saying, "Well, Bryant..." he would have jumped up my list to #1 ahead of Shaka.

Anyone else checking the shaka thread wishing for a "tick tock" from baby?

If we can't get Howland, Marshall, Shaka, or Wright, I think we should take a hard look at Danny Manning. Has ties to the Triad, is one of the top big man coaches in the game (10 players he coached in his 6 years at Kansas were drafted), was an assistant on a team that won the national title and in two years on the job at Tulsa he already got them back into the tourney. Add on his playing experience and past recruiting success at Kansas, and he excites me way more and seems like a safer pick than the other mid major guys like Archie, White, and Amaker.

Gumbel also said to Archie that "he hoped he was more excited about the two wins than he appeared?" Archie definitely wasn't an exciting person to watch get interviewed. I thought that I was gonna fall asleep.

Takes Harvard to first NCAA win tournament appearance since 1940's, elite recruiter, knows tough academics. Maybe got his job at SH too young, coached Michigan during a tough period, success now at Harvard. It's obviously a good fit. He's #3 on my list, above Howland and young guys other than Archie.
