Boehner Stepping Down at End of October

Wow. This is big news. Looks like Kevin McCarthy (CA) is the front runner for the job right now. Sounds like it would be Paul Ryan's if he wants it, but he has said he doesn't.
 
I don't blame Boehner one bit.

Who would want that shitty job babysitting those tea party wing nuts?

Exactly. And I understand why Ryan wouldn't want the job. He might actually have to work with people he disagrees with.
 
Think Ryan is biding his time to run for WI Governor. Walker probably doesn't run again and Ryan needs to be elected statewide before he runs for President. Speaker's a really crapoy job especially for a 'Pub right now. Tea Party can't get one of their own elected and nobody decent wants that job. If Boehner writes a candid tell all memoir, it will be fascinating.

There are a few current and former governors who would probably argue Ryan should go start a business or go to med school instead.
 
This is going to be awesome. Tack angling for the House Speaker position onto the Republican self-cannibalization.
 
Get that the wingnuts would love Gohmert or Steve King, but the votes aren't there. Doubt he wants it, but what's Trey Gowdy's next stop/ambition? Seems like the fair haired 'Pub rght now unless he somehow fails to drive a stake through HRC's heart.

About 2 years too late. The guy is a complete buffoon. It's not simply about "babysitting the wingnuts." It's about listening to your constituency. He didn't, even after the congressional elections made it VERY clear that he should. Fuck Boehner.
 
It would be hysterical if John decided to torpedo the party ahead of 2016. The equivalent of lighting a match on the way out the door.

Yep. Ol' John Boy will wait a decent interval, say, oh two months, and then get those mega dollars as a lobbyist or John Edwards-style "consultant" to Goldman Sachs or someone.

Boehner was the epitome of old school DC crapola. One of the primary reasons he was torpedoed by his own faction was because he was never honest with them. He was always doing backroom deals, saying one thing and doing another. It wasn't a matter of simple disagreements. He was fundamentally dishonest. But he was that way because he was entrenched and arrogant and had the support of the old guard. Just very typical old school DC.

It is one of the reasons why I actually like Ted Cruz (as a Congressional hellraiser, not as a Presidential candidate). Not because of some of the crazy stuff he says, but because he shits all over the old guard. And not just a nice poopoo mcnugget kind of shit. Like smelly, splattery diarrhea shit.
