Official Trump Swamp Thread: Still Corrupt as Fuck

Trump's VA Secretary Robert Wilkie gave a speech in 1995 at a United Daughters of the Confederacy sponsored event in which he called Confederate President Jefferson Davis "a martyr to the Lost Cause" and "an exceptional man in an exceptional age." According to the article, Wilkie is a neo-Confederate believer in the "Lost Cause" view of the Civil War which sees the South as a heroic force, and denies that slavery was the main cause of the war. He attended a pro-Confederate event as recently as 2009, in which he praised Robert E. Lee to a group of Sons of Confederate Veterans. Wilkie was a staffer for Jesse Helms for awhile (of course), and then Mississippi Senator Trent Lott. Just another Trumpian hero cleaning up The Swamp.

And the plural of chief of staff is "chiefs of staff". It's not hard to deduce. Smdh.

The fact that Ayers turned down the job should be a much bigger story. At 36 years old he was offered the opportunity to be chief of staff to the President of the United States, and not only did he say no, he said he would be leaving the administration at the end of the year. The news can play this off as him saying he wanted to spend more time with his family, but this guy is a rising star in the Republican Party who has dedicated himself to the party since he was 19 years old (he did go private for a quick second and made 12 million dollars).

This is people close to him in the Party saying, get out and don't get tarnished, we are going to need you for the next 30 years. This is a stunning about face, as he had been in discussions for months about this position for when Kelly moved on. I don't want to get too excited, but it seriously appears to me that the Republicans are getting scared about the future of this presidency.

His refusal to be Chief of Staff certainly seems to have surprised the Washington insiders. Yesterday the roundtable discussions on the Sunday morning talk shows all assumed that Ayers would definitely be the next Chief of Staff, and it was just a matter of waiting for the announcement. The roundtable on ABC's This Week seemed especially certain. I'd love to see the look on their faces when they found out later that day that he had turned down the job. Trump has never been anything other than a useful tool for the GOP Establishment types. As long as the GOP base loves him, though, and he gives them tax cuts and cuts to environmental regulations and eliminates other business regulations, they'll stick with him. Many of Trump's views (not only on economic issues but cultural and racial ones too) are their views as well - Trump is just too crude and raw and vulgar for them. They just don't like his style, the substance is fine with many of them. The only way they'll turn is if his base turns on him, which I don't see happening anytime soon. Guys like McConnell, Rubio, Romney, etc. are all scared of their own base - it's the tail wagging the dog.

Because of Ayers saying no, Pence better watch his back. Trump will probably blame the VP for Ayers not taking the job. The big orange Ooompa Loompa is likely to consider this disloyalty.

Smart move by the young man.

Only idiots or self-sacrificing patriots trying to mitigate Trump’s idiocy would work in his administration.

Official Trump Swamp Thread: The Republic Strikes Back

Could Ayers just not want people digging harder into his shady business deals?

Could Ayers just not want people digging harder into his shady business deals?

Bingo.

Ayers made all his money skimming money off the top of political ad buys. If people seriously started looking at his finances, they’d quickly realize the scam he was running.

Much smarter to decline the high profile job to take a position where he can continue to run the same scheme without the scrutiny.

Side note, he is the same kind of floppy haired dbag that seemed to be everywhere at Wake.

Any info supporting the ad buy scam? Is that something House Dems could investigate?

So are you telling me that "opportunity zones" are about giving handouts to the wealthy and not about uplifting low income communities?

Customs And Border Protection Paid A Firm $13.6 Million To Hire Recruits. It Hired 2

The audit found that as of Oct. 1, CBP had paid Accenture Federal Services approximately $13.6 million of a $297 million contract to recruit and hire 7,500 applicants, including Customs and Border Protection officers, Border Patrol agents, and Air and Marine Interdiction agents. But 10 months into the first year of a five-year contract, Accenture had processed only "two accepted job offers," according to the report.

Paying $40,000 per recruited worker for jobs that probably don’t pay much more than that seems like a bad deal.

Inhofe, who took over the top spot on Armed Services after the death of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in August, has repeatedly pressed President Donald Trump to dramatically scale up the Pentagon’s annual budget, which currently stands at $717 billion. Last week, after Trump hinted he would like to scale back parts of that budget, Inhofe met with the president and Defense Secretary James Mattis, after which it was announced that the administration would seek even more defense funding: a record $750 billion in spending for fiscal year 2020.

Additionally, Burke said that Inhofe had directed his financial advisor not to purchase any aerospace or defense stocks going forward. Burke provided a letter from Inhofe dated Wednesday detailing those instructions. Metadata in the document indicates that it was created less than 20 minutes after The Daily Beast first reached out for comment.
