Keyshawn Woods Leaving Basketball Program

Hot take alert! I am sure that Woods questioned Manning giving the guards (ie: himself) extra playing time. Probably the worst speculation I have seen in a long time (and I spend time on the politics board).

Yeah, blackjack is a real hot take guy.

Fucking broken.

The first four losses were killers for team chemistry. That set a pattern of desperation that the staff never overcame. It showed itself at the end of games. Some new blood, and purging of last year's roster isn't the worst thing. I don't think we miss Key at all. I do think we miss Doral a lot.

Yes, the first four losses were certainly harmful to team moral & confidence. But I can tell you from being there in person at the 1st game of the season against Ga Southern and watching our guards fold like cheap tents in the final 5 minutes or so with that 9 point lead and losing in regulation that we were in trouble for the rest of the year! It wasn't that we didn't have enough rebounding or big guys in the paint or whatever. It was that we didn't have guard play worth a squat and couldn't close out games. Our guards, name any of them, were turnovers waiting to happen at the most inopportune of times. They would be selfish [see Crawford & Childress] and try to win the game on their own at the under 4:00 mark. But at the end of December, in Chapel Hill, when we led by 4 points in Chapel Hill with 1:00 to go and couldn't put that game away, the entire season was over! This team did not know how to win any better than the Devin Thomas/Cody Miller McIntyre
team did.

This 1,000 percent...I won't miss Key one bit. Horrible attitude evidenced on the floor with other teammates, absolutely no defense, and slow as hell. It was painful watching him run down the court looking like an old man. Half the time the whole team would be on offense and he'd still be trudging in backcourt or so it felt like. Doral will definitely be missed but I believe Sarr is going to take a huge leap this next year. I am still cautiously excited about Hoard and Mucius making big impacts next year. Brown will burst out next year as well. IF crawford comes back I really think we'll be average....That is if Manning actually plays the best players the most.

Define “average.” Average compared to what?

His dad not letting him play football explains what?

Explains that his dad cared about his son's health?

Explains that his dad saw the possibility of getting hurt would harm or end a potential basketball scholarship?

Please explain...

It was a Joke you didn’t get.

One of the biggest "needs", and there are many, is adding some toughness to our lineup. Hard to find a substitute for competitiveness from guards on the floor and only Brandon showed any last year. He certainly has his own areas to improve on but toughness is not one of them. Hopefully Smart and Johnson will add to that with their experience and age

Dave Odom once said of Joseph Amonett, words to the effect of, "he has the potential to be a leader but you can't lead from the bench"

Johnson may be tough as nails but if he's turning the ball over 5 times per game that doesn't do much for us

agree 100% that we have a leadership void and that of our returning players, so far only Childress appears to be able to fill it

Agree. Somebody like Chill Jr needs to grab hold of this team and lead. But the errors need to stop and also the bad shots have to stop. We need good offensive flow at the end of games, teamwork, just like we saw in the NCAA tourney. Passing for the best shot & not forced bad shots where they try to win games all by themselves. Many games we already had enough points to win the big games--just couldn't close them out. And then there is the obvious need to learn to play lock down defense on other team's guards............

So we are legit getting Ikenna Smart and Torry Johnson??

One sounds like a play on words (please tell me his middle initial is B) and the other has the name of a porn star.

What has happened to this once proud program?? We can't even lure guys from ODU and UTC here?

Guess we need to recruit the entire U18 French National Team from now on.

REMINDER!

The Ohio State Fightin' Keyshawns start their march to glory on Wednesday evening against the Cincinnati Bearcats on ESPN2 @ 7pm!

All kidding aside, I'm definitely watching this game. Decent early season match-up of two teams that NEVER play each other, but should.

We do not want Potter, 247 had him as #243 coming out of HS and the 16th best player in OH as a senior.

#243 might be too high for us to even get a look.

Honestly, I think his 2 years of play at Ohio State are what other programs will evaluate. His high school ranking is largely irrelevant at this point.

I understand, but it gives a base. When you add that to him not going to play much this year, it is reinforced.

It really is shocking since we have almost no history of people leaving our b'ball program for inexplicable reasons.....
