2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

You’re a pretty awful poster on the Tunnels these days, man.

It’s never a good thing when “nm” is consistently your most readable post.
its going to be enjoyable watching you come to terms with Bernie's crash and burn.

My candidate is Warren -- is she cornball? Not getting much sincerity out of Sirota and Brie Brie.
Warren is very good, saying a lot of good stuff lately. Regarding sincerity, would you you even know who Briahna was if she hadnt taken that job? I've followed her for a while and I dont remember her ever making some grand promise of political impartiality. It's no secret that leftists prefer Bernie, just as it's no secret that pundits like Neera Tanden oppose Bernie. If Neera were to take a job with Kamala or Biden it would be absolutely unsurprising.

Regarding this politics board I think I'm being very fair with my posting style. Posters here are particularly shitty when their candidates and ideologies are critisized.

Can we get Townie over here for a ruling?

So, since MDMH clearly wants discussion of candidates, I'll start the discussion with this question: do you think it is appropriate for Bernie Sanders to have a journalist writing op-eds that slam opposing candidates without disclosing that he is biased due to his advising and writing for the Sanders campaign?

My answer: it is not appropriate.

lol, that article reads like David Sirotas greatest hits, it's pretty great.

I don’t think it’s a problem pointing out and being critical of any candidate on the left. The problem is that for some unknown reason despite the primary being a year away people have already formed their team mentality as harden purists to whatever candidate they have chosen. Bernie bros being the worst because they formed their team two years ago, and it’s a reason a lot of people hoped Bernie wouldn’t run.

I dont know that Bernie Sanders "had him" writing those pieces, but it was definitely inappropriate for Sirota not to publicly acknowledge his status as a consultant for Bernie. Some of those pieces probably wouldnt have been published if that was known.

This has happened every election in the last four. Why is it a problem when Sanders does it but not when Clinton does it?

I’m team: who cares. As long as we have free markets, we might as well let anybody who wants to run run. I hate Beto O’Rourke, but if dude is going to run then he’s going to run.

Something about an old wild haired Socialist Jew really freaks y’all out.

But the DNC!!!

Bernie pretty much had a free ride in 2016.
Hillary had no reason to attack him, and Republicans loved him because he did a lot of their dirty work. He isn't going to like the sledding nearly as much now that he's going to be a target for a lot of different people.

My only issues with Bernie are that he's a gazillion years old and his supporters are largely insufferable.

The former is what it is; the latter is a problem. I find most people who stan for mainstream national politicians to be insufferable. I'm not sure what's so bad about Bernie supporters that isn't equally annoying among other popular candidates' rabid, vocal supporters.

I don't know what y'all see on the ground, but Our Revolution did a lot of great work and a lot of Bernie supporters participated in some key grassroots victories that we cite on here often. Every base has its annoying constituency, but extrapolating from that is where it gets reductive (at best).

Why did Sanders have a free ride, ChrisL? Why weren't more Democrats running in 2016? It's almost like you completely missed (or ignored) my point because something about an old wild haired Socialist Jew really freaks you out. Is it the hair?

He had a free ride in 2016 because he was no threat to win. Everyone treated him with kid gloves. Hillary had to try to appeal to his voters because she knew she was going to need them in the general election.

Now that he's an actual threat to win the nomination nobody's going to treat him with kid gloves this time around.

Yes I think he's a disaster. Even if by some Act of God he won the presidency he would have no real way to get anything done and he would be a recession waiting to happen. He would be the perfect foil for Republicans to regain power.

But it's going to be fun watching you all get all defensive about Sanders as a front-runner after lobbing grenades at the other front-runners for these many years.

The Clintons froze out the competition (similar to what Trump is doing right now with the RNC) and Sanders didn't get the memo. They tried the same tactic in 2008, but Obama was a once in a generation presidential candidate. Sanders is not.

I'm fine with letting Sanders run a campaign. Let the courts of public opinion and punditry do their jobs and we'll see if he passes the test. Just like the other eight candidates currently running. Your obsession with Bernie Sanders is weird.

Republicans have power. There's not much to regain, at the moment. The DNC's focus should be continuing to build on their House victories with some Senate and gubernatorial election victories in the next few years. As we learned during the tail end of the Obama years, a Democratic POTUS does not Democratic power make.

To respond to your ninja edit - if you really derive joy from "owning the Bernie Bros" then you're a few years away from a life of Fox News-induced stupor. It's stupid politics. If you don't like Sanders, then support a candidate you do like. Actually do something. Make some phone calls, host a party to raise awareness of your candidate. Sitting behind a keyboard on a message board "owning the Bernie Bros," dismissing any post you disagree with via "LOL," and battling with mdmh/mhb isn't politics.

Also, I think most Sanders supporters on here criticize him a good deal. He's probably my 3rd or 4th choice at the moment, so I don't think your issue is with me.

You really need to get over your Clinton derangement syndrome. Did the Clinton Machine Stop John Edwards and Joe Biden from entering the race in 2008?

In 16 there just wasn't a very strong bench of people who wanted to eun and she was a formidable candidate. Do you think really if some of those more marginal candidates would enter the race that she wouldn't have defeated them to?
