2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

Yeah that’s just a nicer way of saying what Tucker Carlson says.

Opening our borders completely would be a logistical disaster for this country, there is nothing dumb about the comment. We have borders for a reason.

There is a big difference between what Bernie acknowledged and the sometimes hateful rhetoric Carlson, or Miller, or Trump are pushing.

Borders are to know who and what comes into our country not indiscriminately keep them out. We can have open borders that work like customs and give people a chance to apply for citizenship.

It's reality that idiots like MHBDeacon don't seem to grasp.

To me the dumb part is the "There's a lot of poverty in this world...so we can't do it" part. It completely lacks the compassion that drew me to Bernie in the first place. The rest of it is correct, more or less, that open borders would be a logistical disaster, but his response needed to pivot to "There is a lot of poverty in the world... and we as a nation have to do what we can to help all people out of poverty, but I don't think opening our borders is a means to that end...in fact addressing poverty in Central America would go a long was towards solving the refugee problems on our southern border..."

Absolutely no candidate supports an open southern border, but it's very on brand for Bernie to step in it with liberals by reminding them he is a populist and actually acknowledging the populist reason he doesnt support an open southern border. If there is anything that academic leftists and neoliberals have in common, it's being completely out of touch with the working class. You know, the blue collar people (disproportionately POC) who wash dishes and clean motel rooms. It's not much of a surprise that college grads and urban elites dont understand populism and domestic economic protectionism, because they statistically dont need it.

Corbyn getting the same shit from liberals in the UK for not outright opposing Brexit.

Our poors > your tired, your poor

All it took was one statement from Bernie to turn two socialists into hardcore border patrollers.

1. Thats idiocy. I believe the American southern border is a necessary evil to protect poor Americans from the burden of massive forced migration from latin America, which American imperialism caused.
2. Dont include MHB, he and I disagree here.

really feeling the sweating man/two button meme for socialist Bernie supporters here

"solidarity with precarious life everywhere" on one and "populist love for the working class" on the other

All it took was one clumsy quote from Bernie for PH to suddenly want to open the southern border. If only the American left could weaponize that idiotic type of reactionary.

I don't believe we should restrict people's freedom to cross arbitrary borders, especially when we wreak havoc in the global south through imperialism and economic policies. I'm for abolishing ICE, abolishing CBP, and abolishing borders.
