Update: Miami currently sits at 12-14 (4-10) #68. Miami has played better of late. Larranaga knows what he is doing, and they have improved in February despite having only 7 healthy players. The Cane's January 12, 2019, 76-65 home win over WF was Miami's only win between December 29 and February 2. On February 2, Miami had fallen to the bottom of the ACC at 1-8. Since then, Miami is 3-2 in the ACC, and one of those 2 losses was in OT at UNC (a game the Canes should have won). A key for Miami's success is the play of Dejan Vasiljevic. In Miami's 4 ACC wins, he is averaging 18 ppg and more than four 3-pointers per game (45%). In their 10 ACC losses, DV is averaging 7.8 ppg and 1.6 threes per game (29%). Contest Vasiljevic from behind the arc, and WF has a shot.

Like WF, Miami's lone road ACC win came at ND.

Bottom line: KP projects a 73-69 Miami win, and gives WF a 35% chance of victory (WF best chance for another win). If Sarr can play (effectively), the game will be tight, and WF could pull out a win. If Sarr can't play (or is hobbled), don't like WF in this spot. Then again, DM owns Tuesdays as WF is 4-2 on that day this season, a day when lesser coaches struggle. FWIW, the opening round of the ACC tournament is on a Tuesday, two weeks from today. The season's end is in sight....

What is the record for historic set-backs in one year? Time to check the Staak/Redacted portfolios. The career achievement awards be interesting as well, man.

Love Tuesdays. 3-2.

3-2 in the ACC (Ws over State, Pitt and ND; Ls to Duke and UVA)

4-2 overall: add in juggernaut WCU. FWIW, Duke has to be concerned that they draw WF next Tuesday.

Especially if Zion is still out.

I've been around since the early 90s, at what point did fans start calling it "the Joel?" All me, and fellow classmates, called it the Coliseum and actually still do to this day? Is it a play on "the Joe" for the old Joe Louis Arena in Detroit?

It was named after Lawrence Joel a W-S native who won the Medal of Honor in WW2. That happened probably 20 years ago give or take? Where have you been under a rock?

Sargent First Class Lawrence Joel:

On November 8, 1965 then-Specialist Five Lawrence Joel and his battalion of paratroopers were sent on a patrol for Viet Cong soldiers near Bien Hoa, War Zone "D" in South Vietnam, conducting Operation Hump. They shortly found themselves in a Viet Cong ambush, outnumbered six to one. Under heavy gunfire, Joel did his duty as a medic, administering first aid to wounded soldiers. Joel defied orders to stay to the ground and risked his life to help the many wounded soldiers; nearly every soldier in the lead squad was either wounded or killed in the battle. Even after being shot twice (once in the right thigh and once in the right calf), Joel continued to do his job; he bandaged his wounds and continued to help the wounded in not only his unit, but in the nearby company as well. When his medical supplies were depleted, he hobbled around the battlefield for more, using a makeshift crutch while SP4 Randy Eickhoff ran ahead of him and provided covering fire. Eickhoff was later awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his actions. Joel attended to thirteen troops and saved the life of one soldier who had a severe chest wound by improvising and placing a plastic bag over the soldier's chest in order to seal the wound until the supplies were refreshed. After the firefight which lasted over twenty-four hours, Joel was hospitalized and shipped to locations including Saigon and Tokyo to recover. Shortly after, he received the Silver Star for his activities.

A 12-14 team is a 5.5 point favorite at our place tonight. That’s a pretty good summary of how far our program has fallen. Fuck you Ron!

No worries, Wake OWNS Miami at home! 8-2 since the Joel opened. We got this!

If somebody referred to the Coliseum 20 years ago, I would have thought they were talking about Greensboro.
