Non-Political Coronavirus Thread

Basically, if you don't get vaccinated, you will get covid - it is just a matter of when. And you won't know whether it will be a nothingburger for you or a serious, dangerous disease with potentially long-term impacts, until it is too late. Same thing for the kids - only their chance of serious illness is lower, but they can still pass it on to others who do get sick.

Exactly, scooter. Very well said. May not be today. May not be next week. May not be next year but you will get COVID unless enough people get vaccinated.

I mean at this point it seems like most people will get covid regardless of the vaccination. You just won’t have severe symptoms.

They scheduled us to get our booster the Friday before the State game. I'm hoping it's gonna be easy to reschedule, because based on my reaction to the second shoot, the next day is gonna be a whole mess of Mr. T. for me.

That is in the eye of the sufferer. Youngest guy in our organization (healthy, nothing preexisting) was double vaxx'd, caught a breakthrough case and said it hit him much harder than he had heard. Wasn't hospitalized but it was bad news.

I gotta get the deets straight, but my Uncle is an optometrist. He's seeing a ~500% increase in retinal scarring over the past year. Like, his practice typically sees 2 to 3 cases a month; over the last year 16 cases/mo. He's suspicious that it's COVID related; collaborating with other opticians.

Are they disproportionately male? I'm guess that the pandemic has people staying home and jerking off to porn more often than usual, which increases the chance of errant ejaculate in the eye. It's science.

are the moderna/pfizer booster shots just another dose of the 2nd round or a different formulation? it's not very clear on the scheduling sites

Same formula and dose as your previous shots, if you are getting a shot for your kid it’s a different dose, significantly less. Answered here and other thread so now you’re covered.

Got the Pfizer booster yesterday after having Moderna for the first two. A bit achy today, but feeling generally ok considering I only got about four and a half hours of sleep last night for unrelated reasons. Second Moderna shot really knocked me on my ass also, so I wasn't sure how today would be.

Ewww... why would go move to Pfizer from the good one? Might as well have chosen J&J.

I thought the Moderna booster was half the original dose unless you are immunocompromised, in which case it’s the full dose.

Asked my doctor which way to go, and he said there probably wasn't any real difference, but there are suggestions that a mixed dose could be slightly more effective.

Yeah the guidance changed when it became official I was somewhat mistaken, it also got way more complicated. Pfizer booster is same formulation, same volume, same dose 6+ months after second shot immunocompromised and regular. JnJ is same formulation, same volume, same dose but better is to mix with a mRNA vaccine and that is 2+ months after first shot. Moderna is same formulation, same volume, same dose for immunocompromised but same formulation, reduction in volume, thus reduction in dose regular. Then Pfizer’s approved children is different dilution formulation, volume and dose which will be designated by a difference in vial cap color. As usually making things as complicated as possible, but more behind the scenes than anything else.
