Wake Golf 2024 - Women’s ACC Tournament April 18-21; Men's ACCT April 19-22

Not a good sign when team has more doubles and triples than birdies….Fitz w stomach bug but even he couldn’t save today. Hoping we aren’t DFL after one round.

Liberty 10 shots better than us…Liberty Golf kicking our ass, there are no words.
 
Just looked and Liberty now 15 strokes ahead of us and we will be DFL after the first round.

Same way Scottie Scheffler, world #1 & Dustin Johnson missed the cut in the PGA last week and this week Scheffler is leading the Charles Schwab. It’s called golf!
 
Sorry Reff there’s a history here at nationals…how can we not be ready for Greyhawk after winning the ACC and regionals, beating UNC in both. UNCseems to be doing well today.
 
One of our guys has 4 doubles and a triple…I’ve played w you Reff, you could match that:)
 
The number 7 amateur in the world is out sick and his replacement is going to shoot 80 plus. To compare our result to Liberty and UNC is irrelevant at this point.

Unfortunately not. It is the Natty tourney so highly relevant comparison
 
The number 6 player at Wake Forest should not be shooting 80 plus…to sports meds point it is a relevant comparison
 
Clay played 3 competitive rounds all year. We had a late tee time in stronger wind. The number 7 player in the world was out. Comparing our score to a morning round from Liberty is simplistic at best. It wasn’t a good day.
 
Incredibly disappointing and embarrassing first round. 3 guys shoot +8 or worse? I have to believe our depth is better than it showed today. I play competitive golf so I know anyone can have a terrible day at any time, but for this many guys to have a day like this at once is.... not good.

Has the guy that got inserted into the lineup today for Fitz played in other matches this year? If not, nerves could have done him in...

Morning winds were about 4mph and afternoon was 15mph.

None of the last 6-8 teams to tee off in the wind ranked 7-9 and 16-18 in the country beat Liberty’s score. Clearly this is all Wake choking. Such a simplistic look at what happened.

The two teams that were paired with us beat us by 9 and 12 shots.
 
It wasn’t a good day. We are top heavy with our top 2 in the top 12 in the world. We are a top 50 at best team without them. Not making excuses. We have no chance without the 2 of them playing at a high level.

Then we have a disappointing lack of depth.
 
This team just won the ACCs and Regionals. There’s plenty of talent and depth. JT won a major last week. Missed the cut this week. Scheffler is the best player in the world and missed the cut last week. It’s golf. It’s probably the toughest sport to maintain consistency day in and day out.
 
According to Golfstat, WF is the #16 team in the country based on performance over the course of the full season. The team overachieved to win the ACC and its regional.

If the #7 player in the country plays yesterday and shoots even par, WF enters today tied for 16th. Sucks that he was not able to play (for the second consecutive nationals, IIRC) but that is sports.
 
we are against the top teams in the country. You take out one of your two studs and realistically getting a top 8 is a tall order.

This is all true. At the same time, there would never be an expectation that we would have a day where Power and Gillam would both shoot +8, and Brennan would shoot +5. That is really hard to explain.

Looks like Fitz is back in the lineup today so lets hope they all go low so we can move up the board as far as possible!

DFL or thereabouts shouldn't be where we are. Fitz or not.
