Banning Critical Race Theory

‘Take the Ship’: Conservatives Aim to Commandeer Southern Baptists
The insurgents, some adopting a pirate motif, believe that the denomination has drifted too far to the left on issues of race, gender and the strict authority of the Bible.

No matter which side emerges triumphant from the meeting next week, a schism looms.

“A lot of us will know if this convention is for us once it is over,” said Dwight McKissic, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, who has been leading antiracism efforts in the denomination. If Mr. Mohler or Mr. Stone wins the presidency, or if resolutions are passed that affirm racism, in his view, he will leave. Several other Black pastors have announced their departures within the past year.

Hostility over critical race theory among the Southern Baptists, which came to the foreground after Thanksgiving when seminary presidents denounced it, is interwoven with its weaponization by the G.O.P., he said.

“The litmus test now for being a Baptist is you have to denounce C.R.T. as they do?” he said. “We would be completely off our rockers to submit, give that kind of power to a white denomination, particularly on the subject of race.”

Imagine thinking that the SBC, which has been dominated by hard-right, Jerry Falwell Moral Majority type fundamentalists since 1979, is still too far to the left and needs to be hijacked yet again so it can be moved even more to the right. Good God.

"Maybe we should respect the rights of people who aren't white men" is a bridge too far so they need to get their ship back.

This is pretty funny: https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/l...lash/275-c7e7c82e-0e60-4963-be47-80fde33f94f2

In summary, Latta Plantation, which is a nature preserve / educational center outside Charlotte centered around Reconstruction plantation life run by a black historian/educator, was planning a Juneteenth educational celebration about slaves being freed and beginning their post-slavery life. Part of the program was to include aspects about the former "massa" who got run out of the plantation by the freed slaves and federal troops and forced to live in hiding. The Social Media Woke Mob, never long on brainpower, misunderstood it to mean that a white supremacy event was being held honoring the massa. Their usual misguided backlash caused the event to be cancelled, Mecklenburg County to review their Latta Plantation contracts, the Town of Huntersville to suspend its funding to Latta Plantation, and Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles (easily the dumbest person in major civil service) to criticize Latta. In response, the Director issued a two and a half page statement (included in the link) ripping the Woke Mob, the media, and Mayor Lyles. You can't make this shit up.

Southern Baptists: You are personally responsible for Jesus dying on the cross.

Also Southern Baptists: How dare you point out white racism! You'll make us feel uncomfortable!

i mean, anyone who's ever said "the civil war was about states rights" with a straight face has participated in confederate race theory

Had no idea all of the historians who have written on the economic origins of the Civil War were participating in confederate race theory!

Economic origins might be the most whitewashed word for slavery ever used. Sure, it was about the economics of cheap labor through slavery

hm, what was it about the south's economy that would cause a conflict with the north?

i mean, anyone who's ever said "the civil war was about states rights" with a straight face has participated in confederate race theory

What if they followed that statement with "to perpetuate slavery"?
