Massive Fire Near Campus - Winston Weaver Fertilizer Plant 1400 N. Cherry Street

If you pray, please pray that that building doesn’t explode because if it does a lot of people will die. That is A LOT of ammonium nitrate.

Fox8 just signed off with "there is more ammonium nitrate at this plant than the one in Waco that killed 15. See you at 5am!!!!"

Ally Schwartzberg in on it in no official capacity.

Those of you with the gallows humor right now...stow it. This is horrifying for the Winston community.

Yeah, it looks like Waco had 270 tons of ammonium nitrate. If reports are true that there is 10x the amount, that's roughly equal to the 2,750 tons held in the Beirut explosion, which was absolutely nuts.

Pray for anyone who was asleep these last few hours and hasn't gotten the evac notice, or can't find a ride, etc.

It looks like the Beirut explosion damaged houses as far as 6 miles away. Hopefully someone's got their math wrong.

it is kind of bizarre how relaxed Fox 8 was about it at the 11pm mark

I know MSD doesn't want students and definitely not their parents to panic, but it seems like they could at least evacuate Polo and everything north.

We walked out of the Y on Robinhood tonight around 8:30 and it was like something out of a horror movie. Awful smell, smoke from a couple miles away. Terrible stuff. It's only gotten worse. I had a Mako's mom joke in the hopper when someone mentioned a giant explosion, but we will save that one for a better day.

Stay safe out there. We live about a 1/2 mile outside of that mile radius, and my dad is within the mile.

Watching this thread from the west coast. Y'all stay safe out there. Really don't want to see WSNC on the news tomorrow.

Tried to convince him to but don't think he did.

What're the chances this thing explodes?

There have already been small explosions observed by drones. Once the water from the truck Winston Fire left on station stops flowing it seems pretty likely.
