Pit Secret Santa 2012 (gifts and such)

Just ordered your gift Santee. Hope nobody else thought of this.

i believe i've determined that my santee should receive on the 18th.

So I'm the new owner of some Whiskey glasses and a huge ice cube tray. I wasn't expecting a package, so it's either from someone I know, or my secret santa. Fess up!

Really hoping I win this eBay bid for Santee #2.

It's from me. Drink a bunch of whiskey and see how many ice cubes you can shove up your ass. It's a great Christmas party trick.

Santa sent me a pair of awesome books on homebrewing. I'm heading out to the basketball game, but will post pictures either tonight when I get back or in the morning.

Thank you, anonymous Santa!

I hope that you mean "Huge Ice Cube" Tray.

Thank you so much, Santa. I'd had my eye on Joy of for a while now.

In the twilight of the 80's, a boy was born. He'd become known as Townie.

Townie would go on to ride bicycles, grow beards, and write some short stories in that class we shared that one time.

Some of you know him as a music lover, some as a copy editor/manager (I think), some as that guy with the nipples that are unsettlingly far apart. Today, I know him as the man of my heart. (overboard? ok.)

I found this outside my apartment door today, astonished as much by the size as how little it weighed. (rimshot) I grabbed a beer and a pocket knife and took to disassembling.

It became apparent that this would be a messy job so I reassessed my approach.

First I noticed a handwritten note along with this, which excites me to no end. It's just so Townish. I had no idea WXPN was his hometown station but I spend a lot of time on NPR so this is especially awesome.

Finally, what appeared to be the pièce de résistance: a framed object. I carefully, carefully cut and unwrapped bubble and paper to find... a blank canvas stretched over a wooden frame. Which I turned OVER to find THIS:

Townie's "The Rise and Fall of the Atlantic" (possibly upside-down?)

I made a face for a while, a good face, the face of a man contemplating art. My walls are littered with photographs but this piece will stand alone. I cannot express my gratitude for the thoughtfulness and effort evident in this gift. Citizens of the boards, shower this man with rep or, better yet, buy him a beer sometime. I certainly will.

*I should note, however, the n00bishness of failing to sign/date your artwork. Come on man.

Haha well done Townie. That art class at Wake definitely paid off.

you had me at nipples that are unsettlingly far apart.

Sorry for not signing it. Hope you like it and wherever it hangs you have an odd time explaining whereyou got it. Merry Xmas!

Townie, that is an awesome gift. May I make a suggestion - at some point, you should create pieces for all of your immediate family members. They will likely cherish those pieces.

My sister is very talented acrylic painter; however, that is more of a hobby to her. My mother and I both have many pieces of artwork (and not enough places to hang it all), but some of our most cherished pieces are the ones that she painted. They also create great talking points.

Thanks WakeGal. I should def do one for my sis. My mom loves hers. Dad doesn't really get art unless it's a painting of ships or war, and I'm awful at representational painting.
