alright CT. the time has come for me to do some salary negotiation. give me your tips.

here's the sitch: got a surprise promotion yesterday (went from being a "specialist" type role on 2 accounts, to completely owning and managing 5 accounts). my promotion was announced to my internal team today, but salary has not been discussed at all. I'm not sure if this means i'm getting a "title only" promotion with no salary increase (which I think would be ridiculous), or whether it is my responsibility to go and ask for an accompanying raise. (I think i'm going to do this no matter what... already have some time booked on my boss's calendar tomorrow morning.)

in your experience, what is a good amount to ask for? I was thinking of starting with either 20% or 15% and negotiating down from that. Is that too much? Should I be asking for more if I'm hoping for ~15%? Keep in mind that I've only been with this company for 7 months.

Yeah, you ask what the salary difference is and then negotiate from there. Don't put a number out there first, in case they were going to go over.

Before you start throwing out numbers, you need to break him down psychologically. That'll give you the edge you need to get to the salary you desire. Step one: skirt + no panties outfit to work tomorrow.

I'm getting my dad a Road ID and making a donation in his name to something. I would do BSA, but of late I have a hard time reconciling the differences to give $ to them, even for him.
my parents have everything they NEED, they don't particularly want anything that I can afford, so I'm pretty much locked into consumables, donations, or smaller useful things (like Road ID).

no idea what to do for mom. zero zip zilch.

Avett Brothers' Emotionalism... I'll never quit you.

love this album so hard.

dad's getting new golf shoes and this fun little wooden rubik's cube thing for his desk

mom's getting (from dad, sis and me... i do all the shopping): a kate spade bag, necklace/earrings from c. wonder, a painting that one of her friends painted (she just started her own business and had an open house over the weekend that my mom couldn't go to... so i went and bought a palm tree painting for the beach house :) ) aaaand something else that i can't remember at the moment... it's a "fun" item. hmmmm it'll come to me eventually.

my parents built a mountain home a few years ago. they put a pool table and ping pong table in it, but never use them. i think they just like the idea that my brothers and i (and any of their other younger guests) will have something to do when we're up there. a couple of months ago, dhtoy and i were up there with them, and he commented that the back deck area would be perfect for cornhole. i still don't necessarily think they'd use it, but i think they'd like to have another thing that other people who visit them will use. so we got personalized cornhole boards for them. they arrived last name, and look pretty awesome. hope they like them!

My dad's getting a sport watch that he wanted and my mom's getting something from Land's End that she sent me the link to. So that's that.

This year my family finally gave out Christmas lists which is making my life so much easier. I always thought it was unfair that they made me do one every year, but didn't return the favor.

On this day, exactly seven years ago, I joined facebook. LAME. And everyone called me a sell-out after holding out so long.

Hah. Same thing here.

I didn't hold out as long as you, though.

My parents are getting a big canvas photo of their grandchild through one of those canvas art places, and a wireless speaker they can take outdoors with them while they're in the yard.
