Conference Realignment Thread: New B1G divisions

The other FBS schools will still be out there. Where do UConn, Cincy, and USF go in the meantime?

Ya that's my question. If a league dissolves, what do the teams that didn't vote for it do? Do they get to keep their schedule for the following year? Or do they have to all of the sudden find opponents or revenue?

There's gonna end up being an Eastern conference mesh of some of the current Big East/CUSA/Sun Belt schools, and then a Western conference of CUSA/WAC/Sun Belt schools. That's my guess.

So USF to the Big XII (they are wanting in the Florida market and academic ranking isn't important to them) UConn to B1G and Cincy to????

I could see Big XII adding Cincy and USF. UConn wants in the ACC bad but maybe B1G would be interested.

What do you all think about adding SMU? They fit the academic profile, add markets and have decent teams.

Have a hard time understanding what Cincy brings or USF to any conference. There are three reasons to expand:

- The primary reason is that the schools added will grow the revenue pie to justify cutting that school a share of the overall pie (typically by adding a media market or by increasing TV rights fees);
- To stay viable (a conference needs at least six schools to be certified);
- To stay ahead of a rival conference's expansion plans.

I don't see Cincy or USF meeting any of those criteria for the Big 12. No chance that ESPN would add to the Big 12 TV contract for more USF-Iowa State or Cincy-Texas Tech matchups; I don't see USF giving the Longhorn network entry into Florida; no other conference appears interested in either USF or Cincy.

Both teams have a strong following in football, that's all that matters..and it would get stronger by joining a stronger 'football' conference.

The most compelling reason for the Big XII to add them would be to get to the 12-team minimum necessary to have a conference championship game and receive the accompanying revenue.

CBSSports is now reporting in its breaking news that this is done. BE7 have voted to dissolve the league.

As far as University of Sun & Fun goes, it opens up the Florida market for recruiting and brand growth to schools like Texas and Oklahoma. Same reason SEC wanted into Texas with aTm

That's only a viable option if the Big XII decides they cannot get FSU.
