Nah, it's actually pretty simple.

Rep = not that serious.

Real life threats/private knowledge revealed = serious.

I will say we haven't ruled out the possibility of punishment for Dv7 (sorry).

And yes, sometimes we are making it up on the fly, because it's impossible to predict what kind of shit our posters can come up with next, and sometimes there isn't already precedent that has been set. That's the nature of being active moderators and trying to make decisions based on context rather than just having everything as a strict black/white rule. If you'd prefer the latter then I'm sure DS would love to have you posting over there.
 
I'm not an RJ fanboy at all. People were just being total assholes to him for the purpose of being an asshole.

Making decisions in combat requires a lot more maturity than running a fucking message board, that's for sure. This whole ordeal is stupid. There are way too many fucks being given about things that don't matter.

ETA: As far as posters' rep, avatars, etc is concerned, the mods remind me of teenagers with a key to their parents' liquor cabinet. They delight in being able to sneak into it when nobody is around.

:laugh: or we'd just rather punish someone through rep before jumping straight to a banning. We don't change avatars very often, usually reserving that for the most serious of trolls. But it's not like we didn't include a warning about that in our terms when we started these boards. If you really feel like your avatar is something private or you own it, then maybe you shouldn't post here. You'd probs be ok with us leaving an avatar with child porn in it up since changing that would certainly be an "invasion of privacy".

Also, we've doled out punishment to dv7 for his actions as well. Sometimes moderating as a team requires discussion, so I apologize if our decisions aren't fast enough for you to pass judgement on immediately.
 
I don't think anyone on this thread could argue that docking RJ's rep wasn't effective.
 
The concept that the "punishment" was effective is total crap. The situation had been solved over a week ago. There was ample of that since then.

This was just fucking with me like they did last week.

It hadn't be solved, you'd still violated our rules and we wanted to make it clear to others that it wouldn't be allowed in the future. You simply apologizing for your actions wasn't going to accomplish that. It's just fucking rep. I'm sure you'd agree it was better than banning you for a short time for what you did? And "over a week ago"?? You posted shit about Moonz just one day prior to our punishment.

We issued essentially the same punishment to Dv7 for the shit he did over the last week, do you see him whining about it and crying about "getting fucked"?
 
Simple solution folks: Put rjkarl on ignore. Let rjkarl, bkf, numbers, and rj's other fans do their thing. Put rjkarl on ignore and exercise some self-control.

I speak from experience. Several years ago, rjkarl and I used to bog down the board with ridiculous battles over who knows what. Finally one day, I put him on ignore. Eventually he realized and put me on ignore as well. That problem solved. I realize that he is clearly the problem because it's always "rj vs.". That doesn't matter. Unless the mods man up, he's not going away. So if you have a problem with rjkarl, put him on ignore and don't worry about him.

Its fucking rep man. Our judicial system waits until all the facts are gathered before having a trial and handing down a sentence. So you're saying you'd have preferred the mods ban you or taken your rep away last week in a knee jerk reaction rather than wait a week? I dont think so.
