Barnes and Nobles
So I went to pick up uniforms for my son's soccer team and two other dads were already there so they didn't get stuck with a shitty color. So another dad/coach gets there with his son right after me. When the coordinator shows up with the uniforms, the son starts whining that he wants red, which is the color I wanted. So, to avoid looking like an asshole, I let the guy in line after me have red. Now I'm stuck with Duke blue.
Fuck man. I didn't get the color I want. I am soooooo not letting those little fuckers name the team this year. No more Green Dinosaurs or Gray Bullets. We're going to be the Blue Pancakes.
Belk's (or Belks') actually makes a little sense, since the store was started by the Belk family... So the store is Belk's, as in the store that the Belks own...
Is it the same for JCP - wasn't the founder's name Penney?

If you can be the dinosaurs, you should always be the dinosaurs.

And it says "Belk" right on the side of the fucking building. I guess it's just people from NC who call it Belk's.
I think that is the issue in where I grew up because there are other companies owned by a different Belk family and they are Belk's _____, such as Belk's Plumbing.
If they founded it, they could name it whatever they wanted. They named it Belk. They bought signs and put them on the buildings.
I really don't think that's it, unless you grew up all over NC.
And there are Belk families all throughout NC.
I think I go back and forth on my pronunciation of those stores.
As an aside the decline if JCP as a retailer really has me bummed out. It is one of those things that I really want to invest in but deep down know that's based on nothing more than the nostalgia of back to school shopping during tax free week.
As another aside, back to school shopping was so boring as a catholic school kid.
Do those navy blue pants fit? Okay let's grab four more pair. Does that white button down fit? Okay let's get four more. Do you want to wear brown or black shoes this year?
This, the Belk family doesn't even like it being called Belk's iirc.
