good lord, rosenthal

Trevor Rosenthal's pitching line since September 20:

11 2/3 IP 5 H 2 BB 19 K ERA 0.00 WHIP 0.60 K/BB 8.5/1 -- 41 batters faced 19 Ks 5 singles 2 walks 0 extra base hits.

Scary.

I am soooo pumped that the Astros hired the Cards old Milb pitching coordinator. He's an old guy, 65, but he basically groomed all the Cards young arms. He thinks modern TJ concerns are overrated, leading to too much forced mechanics, and just focuses on his pitchers making athletic movements. According to him, "the body will find a way." And then all his pitchers throw really effing hard.

It sounds insane, but it's hard to argue with his results.

Hangin out outside with a projector...trying ti find world series online....tips?

Thanks, Matheny! You gave up on your starter way too soon! 2 hits through 5.1 innings with a pitch count of 89 and you pull him? Thanks, Mike!

Another bad throw to 3rd base kills us. Fuck everything.

Just realized Jim Joyce made the interference call--the same Jim Joyce that fucked up Galarraga's perfect game a couple of years ago. That guy is just one big walking fuckup of an umpire.

Meh, the obstruction call was the right call. Middlebrooks tripped Craig. Intentional or not, that's obstruction. The bad throw from Salty is what you should be focusing your anger towards. Fuck.

Great the W-S is going to be decided by parsing words. The rule book example says 'if he continues to lie on the ground he has LIKELY obstructed the runner'. Torre and the umps are presenting that as, if he's on the ground he 100% has obstructed the runner.

So if Middlebrooks gets up or tries to raise up to get out of the way he obstructs the runner, if he lays there he obstructs the runner. Great rule. In other words there is no way for Middlebrooks to not obstruct the runner in that case.

The other thing Joyce said in the press conference was that Craig was in the base line since he was right on the chalk. Replay pretty clearly shows he was 1-2 fee inside the line. It's been a while since I've seen discussion on where the base line is, but I know if the runner going to first runs on the infield side of the line and gets hit by a ball being thrown by the catcher he'd be ruled out for being outside the baseline.

Really surprised that former Cardinal player and manager Joe Torre is defending the call on MLB Network. Shocking.

From a little research, the best I can tell, it didn't really matter where Craig was unless he interfered with a batted ball or a player trying to field the ball.

This is starting to have the feel of 1975.

Kind of the reverse of the call where Armbruster interfered with Fisk and wasn't called for it. IIRC

Except the Sox didn't get the interference call in '75. In Game 3, of course.
