Fans of the 49ers have raised more than $8,000 to purchase a billboard in Seattle aimed at taunting residents with images of the five Super Bowl trophies the 49ers have won as a franchise.

With the project expected to cost $7,000, the remaining money will be contributed to Seattle's Children's Hospital, according to project manager Aasheesh Shravah. The group's website said as of Tuesday afternoon that $8,379 has been raised.

Is this really a rivalry or just two teams in the same division that both became good in like the last 2 years?

More like this. Bay Area sports fans are silly. (Except East Bay fans. They're legit.)

Pretty cool that the extra money goes to the opponent's city's children's hospital.

Yeah, the 49ers "became good in like the last 2 years", that's why their fans are putting up a billboard flaunting their 5 Super Bowl Championships.

Is this serious? Let alone the fact that it's been 20 years since the Niners last won a championship, CDeac's point is that both teams aren't really rivals but are just division foes that happen to be peaking simultaneously.

The NFL doesn't have "rivalries" like most college sports. Usually the top two teams in each division hate each other and this is what has happened here. Add to it that the two head coaches butted heads in college and it started to become a rivalry. I certainly feel it is starting to become a "rivalry". San Fran always had a rivalry with the Rams until they up and moved to St. Louis so this is starting to take off.

The NFL doesn't have rivalries? No.

What are the so called rivalries of the NFL? The Redskins Cowboys is the long standing one but hasn't mattered over 2 decades because of where both teams are. The NFL tried to generate huge buzz for Colts/Pats when it was Peyton vs. Brady. The natural rivalries you see in college don't exist on that level of pros.

It's over then. Seattle will win the super bowl.

All the NFC East teams in particular have rivalries among one another that matter to the fans of those teams, which is ... the point of rivalries. Jets-Pats matters. Ravens-Steelers matters. The Packers and Vikings and Bears matter. Colts-Pats was much more of a thing than the Niners-Seahawks, but you're right in that the fans of those teams probably didn't care as much as the media did.

Considering that I live in SF and like Russell Wilson, I hope they develop a legit rivalry. It's just not a rivalry yet. :noidea:

To add. Denver Oakland is a great rivalry. Raiders Chargers is Huge in San Diego because of all the old LA Raider fans. You cannot buy single game tickets to the Raiders game in San Diego. The Raiders game only comes in 3 game packages because of all the stabbings and fights that happen at the game.
