What would Wake have over WSU? The only thing I can think of is concern for the conference and the effect that may have on recruiting. WFU would be a much tougher place to make the NCAA tourney. WSU I also believe is an extremely well funded school so money-wise I doubt we can give an offer they can't match.
Marshall would get so much ridicule if he left a Top 5 team like Wichita State for a currently irrelevant bottom feeder like Wake. He would of course turn it around with a couple years, but that initial backlash would be rough. I think he'll hold out a couple years for one of the premier jobs to open up or just stay at WSU for good.

I don't think backlash would be too significant. People know Wake offers more long term than Wichita State.

lol Marshall would not get ridiculed for taking the Wake job. What is wrong with some of you?

Yeah, I couldn't disagree more. We are not an irrelevant bottom feeder. We are a storied program who has hit a terrible stretch due to one incompetent coach. Both sides would be praised for this.

And a quick search reveals that they have a $200MM endowment and 11000 undergraduates paying $5,890 in tuition. Insincerely doubt they could come remotely close to matching an offer from Wake with ACC TV money behind it.

Plus you know the whole downside of having to live in Wichita.

Irrelevant bottom feeder? Really? Wake has shown over quite a number of years that we can compete with anybody. Wake has a lot to offer. It is still an attractive job. 4 years of Bz has been bad, but it doesn't change what we were before he got here.

I thought I read their AD has tons of oil money coming in. If I have time I'll try to dig it up. I am not saying Wake is irrelevant but I don't see it as a clear step up in terms of trying to win a natty. It may be a step down in that regard in today's landscape.

He just got a raise to 1.7 million within the last year. If Wake wanted to outbid that considerably they could with the new ACC money. Aside from that he would not get ridiculed for going to the best basketball conference in America in an area he has ties to. And as far as advantages, Wake Forest had 4 NBA players on the same team just 5 years ago. Don't think that is possible at Wichita State... and NBA talent is how you truly compete for titles year in and out.

All that said I doubt we land Marshall, but the idea that he would be ridiculed is something out of InsideCarolina.

I was about to throw out Louisville as a possible ACC job that might open within the next few years, but just learned that Pitino is only 61. For some reason I always took him for much older than that (perhaps due to his vague resemblance to Skeletor).

Yeah, it's really just UNC. And I think they'll try to stay in their tree initially, unless there are no decent options. Texas isn't a top-10 program but obviously is a great program. That's an option I suppose. No way Duke goes with Shaka before trying someone from their own tree first.

You can definitely win at Wake as demonstrated by the previous twenty years prior to Buzz.

However, I don't think Marshall would be interested in the Wake job if he were to leave Wichita St. for a bigger name program.

This is largely because Marshall strikes me as someone who all he really cares about it winning. He would want to put himself in a situation where he saw the best chance for him to win. There are two major obstacles that can potentially hinder winning at Wake. 1) The Premiere and his controlling ego. 2) Higher academic requirements.

Again, it's very possible to win at Wake despite those reasons, however Marshall is going to be a super hot commodity after this season and will have the luxury to be able to pick an ideal situation to jump to if he so chooses. Those obstacles coupled with the dumpster fire status of our current program makes me think he will likely wait and take his chances somewhere else.

This is probably on another thread somewhere, but what other jobs are going to be open that would compete with Wake?

Wake will be the top job. Stanford might be up there if they fire Dawkins.

ETA: Forgot about Ok St, but Wake would be #1 still IMO.

Recruiting.

People are seriously trying to put fucking Wichita State on the same level as Wake Forest? Holy shit.
