Wake rejects CBI bid

How would you guys feel about Bz being fired tomorrow and Battle coaching the guys in the CBI?

I'd rather play a road game than a home game if the home team has to pay. I'd rather not play in this garbage tourney at all though, especially if Bzzzzz is still here.

I'm fine with playing in the CBI if Bz does not coach it.

At this point, I think Wellman and Bz must have already discussed a buyout of Bz's contract. If Wellman has made the decision to can him, he will not leave him in limbo for days while he completes his NCAA duties. That would be unprofessional. Either Wellman and Bz have already reached agreement, in which case Bz will "resign" and Wellman can accept the resignation while on the road, since outwardly the decision will seem to have been in Bz's hands, or else Wellman will make a short trip back to Winston Sun night (or perhaps sooner) to have "the talk" in person.

I think it's more the "There's so much fucking TV money that you can put shitty basketball on a no-tier channel and still make money" generation

TV money for all sports is just nuts now. I occasionally catch some of Mike Franscesca's show (who is just god awful) and the amount of cash the YES network pulls in is just ridiculous. A sports network, dedicated to one team, that only plays half the year makes billions. They simulcast radio shows and pay the hosts 7 figures just because they need to fill space. Advertisers are willing to pay top dollar so people can watch a radio show.

It's just going to get more extreme too as those computer machines catch on. I really don't think they're a fad. Just as some pro teams have better monetized it than others, so will certain NCAA conferences. The money is coming and schools that don't see the opportunity to make money and grow it stature both athletically and as a university will be left behind. We need a forward thinking AD willing to pony up for someone who the fans want to watch, interact with and who advertisers want to market to those fans.

Ron Wellman is sequestered (I love that word) in Indianapolis attending to his duties as the Chairman of the NCAA Basketball Committee, so I found Mike Buddie, his right-hand man, in hopes that Buddie would shoot down all the speculation.

“We’ve left that decision on that tournament up to the individual schools,” Swofford said about the CBI. “I think we’ve had Virginia play in it one year and they are the only school from our league that’s played in it.

“I don’t know. It’s different than the NIT and as a league we just don’t have that much experience with it.”

So Dan sought out Buddie but couldn't get a quote. And Swofford thinks the whole thing is pathetic. Awesome.
