Top 3 Choices

I really hope he doesn't take that job. That's a terrible gig.

Their new UCLA AD has said he is going to pump a ton of emphasis and support into the bball program. But it is still in the crappy AAC with no history.

If I was Masiello I would definitely take the best job I could get this offseason. Even though Masiello is a boss Manhattan is gonna fade a bunch next year and itĺl be harder to leap. I dunno if USF is best job he can get though.

With all 3 of our top candidates out of the tournament, I expect things should happen fairly quickly, unless Wellman suddenly wants to include Miller and White.

How do we know that they are our top 3 candidates? All I've seen is speculation and hope that they are.

Marshall would be in my top three we'll see if he continues on today

If you pay attention and have been around a while, you should know who to listen to, and all those people are pointing to a list of Shaka Smart, Ben Howland and Tommy Amaker. They are all also unanimous that Gregg Marshall is not a candidate.

I expect we'll hear pretty shortly that Smart is staying at VCU (sad), then we'll wait to see what happens between Howland and Amaker.

With the reports this morning that Howland wants Marquette and Marquette is interested in Howland, I'm afraid he's going to be off the table pretty soon. So if Shaka says no, Amaker may be the guy.

I've seen this aversion to Marshall here and one can probably point to the lack of academic rigor at Wichita State or the reliance on transfers and juco guys as negatives but the step down from Shaka to Howland and Amaker is more than a bit unsettling and I would hope they are casting a wider net .

UCLA fans were ecstatic to see Howland and the toxicity that had developed around Westwood be run out of town and one would think Wellman would weigh that considering his emphasis on some intangible unknowable "right way" of winning. Amaker would be the safest cheapest and most boring pick .

Just get Shaka please.

Would Amaker move the needle with Wake Will? I imagine they could sell the Harvard cred.

I still think he's more likely to go to BC then Duke if he's successful. I'm guessing the unwritten rule doesn't apply in such a large conference.

Unwritten rule doesn't matter for your alma mater. Most contracts would have that out or it would be understood if a guy like amaker left a bc or a wake for duke.

Shaka won't come unless he is paid 4+mill per year. Looks like Howland, but Wake needs to move fast.

FWIW - Nova insiders aren't particularly worried about losing Wright. There are concerns present about the nBE in light of Buzz bailing, but no one thinks Wright is seriously considering a move. One thing to keep an eye on is he has wanted a redone Pavillion (Nova's home arena) for a while and nothing has been done.

This kind of intel is huge during a coaching search. Good to know. If by some miracle RW lands Jay Wright, this will be a substantial part of the reason, if it's true.

I won't mind that at all. We need a generational coach. We need someone who can excite our fans and players. We need someone with a personality. None of these is Ben Howland.

Think about for a minute. He went 25-9, had the #1 recruiting class in the country and won the PAC-12 , but the players and administration thought they had to get rid of him.

He's absolutely a fallback choice for us.

He isn't going to leave Wake for Duke. He might leave BC for Duke, but not Wake. If he takes the Wake job, then he is basically writing off the Duke job. Not sure if he would do that at this point in time, given that he he already had one definitely better job than Wake, and another that was a better job then than we are now.

I love how fluid this arbitrary number is becoming.

Seriously. The guy makes ballpark $1.5MM right now. You're telling me he wouldn't take an ACC job for $2.5MM? Bullshit. Even if he doesn't see himself coming to awake long term he could always use it as a stepping stone.

The problem for Wake is Shaka can pretty much pick whatever annual number he wants
