Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

2.5-3 million should do.

It's very important about what Goodman is saying.

For some reason I think we can actually land Shaka.

Mark it down: Howland will be our head coach; Shaka & Marshall stay put.

Actually a pretty good question. If we think that Shaka is ready to move and would come to Wake Forest if he is offered enough, what does that number need to be? And what do we think Wellman is willing to shell out?

I think it has to be at least 2.6 or 2.7 guaranteed with incentives that take him over 3, and more in later years. I also don't think that's too far a stretch for Wellman.

Id go 3.5 with some healthy incentives. Go big or go home . Get what you pay for here.

I feel like the fact that nothing has come out from Shaka himself today is very telling. With all of the reports today, you'd think he would have said something about being happy and staying if he wasn't listening this time.

I've been saying it for a while tomorrow night will be pretty big. If there is still no word from Shaka in the next 24 hours then I'm going to start being really optimistic. Ron needs to pay the man, have a presser Thursday, and have Wake basketball relevant again by Friday morning.

I'm telling you guys - if Shaka doesn't come to Wake, it won't be because of money. We have the money to put together a very nice deal for him.

If Shaka doesn't reaffirm his commitment to VCU tomorrow there's traction somewhere.

What's an extra million bucks? Raise tuition to 70K - 75K. Hell, 80K. Split the difference with Shaka.

The silence is telling and if we have the dough I think he comes.

I have ranted enough about the shift towards the power 5 conferences. This winters ncaa meeting was pivotal. The mid majors are fun in march but have no voice and no seat at the decision making table. Moves like buzz to v tech aren't going to be that surprising. College basketball is going to look more and more like college football in terms of the power shift.

VCU has to bust tail to build a 25mm facility? Who cares. We are massively upgrading all of our facilities with the new tv contract money.

It's going to be a continuous uphill slug for a VCU and if/when shaka has a couple of lackluster seasons the extra 900k the rams club raises for him just to get BZD $$ is going to be harder to come by.

Shaka is definitely listening to someone. He would have made a statement today if he was definitely not entertaining ideas. I agree that we hear something tomorrow for sure about his intentions, either to stay or leave. He won't stay silent another day.

I think they may already be at that point. He's gotten a lot more expensive in a short period of time. VCU is growing in a lot of expensive areas, not just basketball. As the columnist wrote yesterday, the ROI from this point forward is not guaranteed.

Do we? I'd love for a donor to step up, but I'm certainly not going to fault them if they don't want to. We just don't have as many rich benefactors as other programs, so I'm not sure how realistic it is to expect us to be among the top 5-10 in the nation in terms of coach salaries, as much as I'd like to.

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE
