Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

I have no doubt that we've made a great pitch... but I don't think any of us have a read on Shaka Smart. That is why I am skeptical. Would I come to WFU if I were him? Of course... but I'm a little biased.

Take a moment to remember those big games in the Joel when Skip was coach. EVERY seat was filled, the noise was deafening, the atmosphere electric. (And Nasty was dancing in the aisle, but I digress...)

That's what I want again for Wake. We have suffered mightily since that time, enduring one blow after another.

IT'S TIME for something good to happen at Wake.

Come on, Shaka. Wake is a special, special place and we want you to recapture the glory days! Build yourself an empire like no other! You will be beloved. Let go...follow the light....

I never want to see NazT dance again.

In my graduating class of 210 from a high school an hour away, I know 1 person that went to VCU and it was his only option.

It doesn't really matter whether any of us like VCU or Richmond. Shaka does. I have lived here for a long time and I went to WF. Richmond is a great city and VCU is a fine university. The people who say otherwise haven't lived here and don't know.

He didn't apply to Radford? I'm not saying it's UVA or W&M. I know folks who went there and liked it, but it's certainly a different experience because of the campus thing. It wouldn't be my first choice if I was a kid undecided on a major. But if I'm into the arts, it's probably my first choice in the state. They also have some good specialized programs, and MCV is a good hospital. I was responding to the glorified community college comment. No reason to start denigrating VA's schools, and if we really want to compare state school systems, I'll take VA's over NC's in a heartbeat.

Has any other school offered Shaka that has a professor that his wife was named after?

With a competitive $3 million offer, the allure of competing in the ACC, the small elite academic University and family atmosphere offered by Wake, the appeal of the North Carolina geographic location to keep Shaka and his coaches on the east coast, Wake's awesome black and gold school colors, our proven history of giving Coaches time to build their program, etc, etc....there are many reasons why Shaka could choose to Coach at Wake.

It happens today or it is not going to happen.

VCU's Wiki page (easiest point of reference) says the average SAT score for its students is 1088. That's pathetic.

You are missing the point. Shaka likes it here.

Have you talked to him about it? Do you know how much he likes living in Richmond compared to how much he likes coaching college basketball at the highest level?

Man oh man it's gonna be cool to see whether these VCU guys end up thinking of Wake dudes as idiotic dickfaced wrongos or the people who ruined their fucking lives.

Judging by the fans we've seen on Twitter and the message boards, I'm shocked.

I've now heard from three people that VCU has let Shaka know that their bball budget has been extended as far as it can go. They can't offer anymore than what they've committed to him, his staff, and the program that what is already in the works now.

That or it happens on Monday or Tuesday. Wellman will give him the time to make up his mind if an offer has been made. Wellman has publicly bought that time for himself.

He has publicly stated it numerous times in the years he has been here. I guess the fact that he has stayed here and turned down offers from UCLA and NCSU speaks for itself. I want Shaka to come to WF. Saying that VCU and Richmond are not as good as WF and Richmond are value statements in your mind not his.
