Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

Its amazing how quickly Wellman has regained his status as a premier AD in the country

any connection between Blue Star Properties and WFU?

flight to dulles and back today:

Hmmm. Interesting. It's owned by Blue Star Properties of W-S. Names tied to it are Norman Wiginton and Chester A. Michael III, the owner of Parkway Ford in Winston-Salem. Blue Star was involved in a semi-scandal over former Gov. Bev Perdue's use of the plane for travel while she was governor.

Well, fuck.

No its not. The name tied to it is David Neill, who owns Mercedes-Benz in WS and is a big UNC supporter

Yea. The more I think about it I don't think Smart or VCU will release any more statements at all. There's nothing to announce; no one's actually reported that we've even offered him the job, VCU has already said he's "committed" to them, so why would Shaka have to say anything else? The next and only piece of actual "news" I'd expect to hear reported from anyone -- candidate, school, agent, or otherwise -- is from Wake announcing a PC at which we'll announce our new hire.

Exactly.

Wellman doesn't need to do anything else but let it leak that they went after Shaka and I imagine that's how we found out, leaks that Wellman allowed in order to pacify the fanbase. Not many people will blame Wellman if we don't get Shaka because UCLA didn't get him unless we end up with a bad hire like last time.

You'd think the AD would want to at least show the fan-base that we tried to go big. If we hear nothing and he announces a dud like Mooney, it's going to get ugly. I want to be excited about the next hire so if it's not SS then eliminate his name from the rumor mill so we can readjust expectations. I'm hoping RW recognizes this and since there hasn't been any leaks it means we're still firmly in discussions with SS.

Seems like this group has even passed the point of punch-drunkedness. Now it is a general feeling of agonizing boredom and contrived hope as we wait and wait and wait.

"Chester A. Michael III, the owner of Parkway Ford in Winston-Salem, is listed by the Perdue Committee as making a $794 in-kind donation on Nov. 27, 2007, for a flight by Blue Star LLC of Winston-Salem that took place on the same day. The flight originated in Winston-Salem with stops in Raleigh and Statesville. Norman Wiginton, a Perdue appointee to the N. C. Aeronautics Council, owns Blue Star."
