Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

My list is the same except I don't want Mack.

I would rather have a fresh break from the past as well, but the reality is that Mack can coach, and has been pretty impressive at Xavier. If he is the floor I can be ok with that. I honestly believe if we want Howland he is ours, but who knows what Wellman is thinking.

...and what if Montgomery retires?

I think we are a better job than Cal, and I think Howland in a lot of ways would prefer to get away from the west coast. It isn't like he left there with a lot of good vibes. If they offer and we aren't willing to make a move, then obviously he could go that way, but I Think head to head we chooses us.

I've officially made it to the end of this thread for the first time. Must be announcement time. I think we hear something within the hour.

I'd be fine with him if all others turned us down.

I'd rather gamble and bring in Manning then take a "safe" pick on Mack that would probably have us max out in the Sweet 16. Now, winning a couple games in the tournament would be fun... but winning 4 would be even more fun.

My list:

1a: Marshall
1b: Shaka
3. Howland
4a: Archie
4b: Mack

If we end up any of those 5, and I will be pretty amped. All of those coaches have had some proven success. Archie is the biggest gamble, but I have spent a good amount of time with his brother, and I have to imagine that Archie has a lot of similarities. Would sort of be buying Archie based on Sean, but I would be willing to take that gamble.

this is my list as well.

Danny Manning has very serious DONK potential. More than Mack, which is saying something.

Mack would've given me much more of an e-boner if we hadn't (i) flirted with Shaka for a week, (ii) had Ben Howland supposedly sitting around waiting for us to offer him, and (iii) received word that our BoT / administration has told RW that money is "no object" on this hire.

I don't know what to think about the Archie/Wake thing. What I've learned in the past week is that certain coaches are very loyal to their current and future players. Coming to Wake for lots of $$ may make sense to us, but it's not necessarily the same for a young coach who's experienced success in his current situation.

I looked up Montgomery at Cal. He's only making $1.5M. That is not Howland money, so I could be wrong about Howland/Cal being a good fit. He's also burned some CA HS BBall bridges from what I read.

I'm all in for Howland and Archie, but I'm starting to temper my expectations. I think Chris Mack would be a good hire, as well, but it seems every candidate other than the floor guys seem to have good reasons not to come here.

I think the Shaka deal has to be dimming at this point. If he has taken this long to decide, it's not to come to Wake, but rather to see what else may pop-up during his thinking period. I'd love for him to be Wakes next coach, but I hope that Wellman is putting the full-court press on Archie Miller right now.

The best part about hiring Danny Manning is that we would FINALLY be favored in the hypothetical ACC Coaches Steel Cage Deathmatch.

Exactly the same
