Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

I'm about to go have a kickass pastrami sandwich which will put me in a great mood for the rest of the day. hope to come back to good news!

I am so over Shaka. The dream is dead. I just want a coach. #ArchieIn

Just to play Devil's Advocate on Manning, weren't Marquette fans a bit perplexed when a virtual no-name with one year of HC experience at UNO got hired to be their successor for Crean? Buzz has done pretty well for himself no?

Not like Danny wasn't a long-time asst like Williams before his gig at Tulsa where he's done alright. Just sayin'.

Didn't someone last night predict we would have news by post 9,500? Swing and a miss.

If they're expecting an asston of donations to come pouring into the Deacon Club and Wake Will, they had better not trot out Danny Manning, Mike White, Levelle Moton, etc.

wtf?

Why? I'd much rather have him than Mack. Mack came across as totally classless in the Holloway incident with Cincy a few years ago (Cronin came across way better). Manning has done a good job with Tulsa in a very short period and was reportedly a good recruiting assistant at KU before that. He may be riskier than Mack, but his ceiling is much higher.

The one positive on his resume is his big-man coaching, which is to some degree called into question by Embiid's development this year.

The cons are that he never made a name for himself as a big-time recruiter at Kansas (the friendliest evaluation I can find is "solid"); his recruiting at Tulsa has been worse, by the rankings, than Wocjik's (two two-stars and a bunch of UR's); he has two years of head coaching experience; his Ken Pom ranks at Tulsa have been the worst since 2006 (first year) and in line with Wojcik's last five teams (second year), albeit with inexperienced teams; and he turns 48 in a month and a half, so, while young-ish, he's not somebody like White or Miller who's succeeding at a remarkably young age.

Mack has had exponentially more recruiting success, far more success as a head coach, and is 3.5 years younger than Manning. Anyone advocating Manning over him would be well-served to remember Irish's motto, which got a lot of play around here 3-4 years ago, that hope is not a method.

So, let's go after Cronin. Muggsy would then have someone he could look in the eye.

YES, its extremely depressing.

I would prefer the days of silence over the other option of having all these names publicly attached to the job to see them change on a daily basis (Smart, Howland, Wojo, Cuonzo). That would be much more disturbing than 9,500 posts of nothing but speculation.

If Wojo is a smokescreen to put heat on Howland, but Howland is waiting, waiting, waiting...what pray tell is he waiting on? The WF job?

But if Shaka isn't "swingin' for the fences" and we're in need of a "safe" hire, are we waiting on someone else?

So funny there is so little information right now, even from the pundits like Parrish and Goodman. Who else could be our top target other than Marshall, which seems unlikely at best? Archie? Come on really?

Probably some coaches that have put their name in the hat that may surprise us. At least I hope so.
