Do y'all think we could land Coach Cal?
I know you're a huge Cal fan but I don't know of we can support his recruiting budget.

We have offered him, but it will be hard to land him. Perhaps Manning helps.

Looking at our 2015 offers, I think we could still make a solid run at Ingram, Manuel, and Dickerson.
For as skeptical as I am, I'm pretty excited to see what Manning can do on the recruiting trail.
If Manning is the guy, we are going to see immediate improvement. You don't pay a guy over $2M to not improve with a bunch of juniors even if they lack talent. Doing less with more is part of being a good coach.
The honeymoon is over, Danny.
The honeymoon is over, Danny.
At $2 mil a year, there should be no honeymoon. When you demand that kind of money, you are implicitly promising a commensurate standard of performance.
That's total crap. You can only do so much with the talent you are handed.
...Would you have demanded Shaka make the Sweet 16 with group next year?
You brought up the amount. The amount he's paid is what the going rate is. He's not getting a premium. He's getting close to 25% less than BuzzW is getting at VT which is a dramatically inferior job to Wake Forest.
You also stated "no honeymoon". That is unfair and unrealistic. No coach comes in and can immediately get the results you talk about.
Basketball recruiting is dramatically different than football recruiting. In bball, you have to create relationships. It's often a multi-year project with the better players. Add to this we have several needs and currently only one scholarship.
To give him "no honeymoon" regarding recruiting (2015) is grossly unfair. It's a process not a spigot.
If by some chance he can convince the Giles' to have Harry commit this summer, then it could be a spigot.
That's one of the reasons he is being paid more...also, he has more experience and more success.
If you don't expect results from an employee who is paid $2mil I need to find out how to get employed by you.
QFTReading is fundamental. I said nothing about demanding a Sweet 16, ACC championship, or anything else. $2 mil a year demands improvement, nothing more, nothing less. Improvement in performance on the court. Improvement in communication with the fan base and selling the program off the court. Improvement in recruiting. I have no idea how many games Wake football will win next fall or the fall after, but we all can see that Dave Clawson is working his butt off and bringing immediate improvement in all aspects of the program, especially recruiting. For $2 mil a year, we have every right to expect the same from Danny Manning or anybody else who might have been hired.
That's one of the reasons he is being paid more...also, he has more experience and more success.

I never said such a thing. What I said was it's unrealistic to expect immediate and dramatic improvement from a roster with gaping holes.
The roster is coming back. Duke, Cuse, UNC, UVA, Pitt, and Louisville are all losing their best players. How are those not "gaping holes"?
Duke has a class coming in that is as good as or better than KY's was this year. UNC has the #3 class coming in.
We lose our only two real outside shooters and don't any. We didn't add any rebounding to bolster our terrible rebounding. So our roster coming back can't expect to fill huge gaps.
