CBM: X-Men '97; Deadpool and Wolverine trailer

Been seeing rumors that a Mystique solo movie is in the works. Makes sense to cash in on J-Law's popularity and acting cred, but I can't see building a solo movie around a shape-shifter. I know she had her own comic but I'm not familiar with the story lines. I assume it would involve Destiny and the Brotherhood.

i just watched Thor: The Dark World this weekend. Thought it was pretty good, corny in spots but that's always been part of Thor. Final battle scene was entertaining. The big cliffhanger at the end with Loki left me wondering what they're setting up for and if it will be addressed in Age of Ultron or left for a later movie.

I doubt you see more than a passing reference to Loki in the new Avengers movie. I think they are pointing toward a Ragnarok storyline for Thor 3.

So is Quicksilver gonna be in two different universes at once?

So if Marvel keeps with the traditional beats of storytelling (and we know how Disney loves that), I would think that AOU is going to be the Avengers "dark" middle act. That is to say the end of Avengers 2 will leave the characters battered and broken (I'm thinking Disassembled). The following solo movies will tell the story of their road to get back to where they started, and Avengers 3 will be the triumphant return for the characters.

Or Marvel could go the complete opposite direction and try to set this thing up for another decade. It's pretty hard to tell what they have up their sleeves.

My only hesitation here would be whether or not Disney will end a presumed billion dollar film with something other than a happy ending. I can't think of a single other Disney movie that's done that. I guess Thor 2 came closest?

So I guess you'd call the end of The Winter Soldier a "happy ending"?

How did the second Pirates of the Caribbean end? I don't remember, but I thought that it led right into 3.

This is relevant to the thread and hilarious. Just watch.

Fair enough. There was a relatively clean resolution, and the bad dudes got beat. Maybe not happy, but just about all of the tension was resolved in a positive manner. Nick Fury's alive, Cap doesn't have to worry about SHIELD, Maria Hill moved onto Stark, Black Widow seems fine, and Bucky is rediscovering himself.

I guess when I think of an Avengers Disassembled cliffhanger coming, I think of them being outright beaten and at their lowest lows. That's where I'd like to see it go, too, but it would definitely be a bad-guys-win ending that we haven't really seen to date.

The end of NCFOM comes to mind. I remember a lot of people debating why Chigurh got away at the end, and the response that the film was a reflection of the real world, where good guys don't always win, and sometimes bad shit just happens. Even for a pretty black, very well-received Coen brothers' film, I remember a lot of (imo, very stupid) people being very upset and discontent with that ending. The idea that Disney could risk that sort of audience unrest with a dark ending of its own seems kind of unlikely to me.

I also understand and appreciate the absurdity that is comparing an Avengers movie to No Country for Old Men.

i don't think it would be that big of a risk for Disney; it's not like it would be the first Marvel or Avenger movie; it's one film set in a solidly constructed universe

I thought the Sunshine Brigade was finished. Nick Fury is on the run. Cap has lost everything that sustained him since he was brought back to life. Maria Hill basically ran to the only place she knew could keep her safe. Black Widow's identities are shattered and all over the internets and she lacks the purpose that helped her get her life together. Bucky is still a cyborg with minimal control over his mind.

Your post is like saying, "CJ Leak is alive, Chris Paul doesn't have to worry about playing in the ACC Tournament, Odom moved on to South Carolina, Dino Gaudio seems fine, and Ron Wellman is rediscovering himself."

lol

Yeah, fair enough.

Thinking about the movie a little later, one of the problems with the enormity of this universe that they are creating is to do these side films without integrating everything. Like when the helicarriers went live, Stark / Stark tower was a target. If you are going up against shield and on the run, why not call Stark in the beginning of the movie? When the shit really hit the fan why not call Banner? He could have fucked up all three helis and Bucky on the way to breakfast.
