Official 2014 NFL Draft Thread

This year, 16 of the 32 first round draft choices were either 2 or 3 stars heading off to college. The 2* guys were Bortles, Mack, Dennard, Marcus Smith and Ward. The 3* were Manziel, Evans, Gilbert Ebron, Fuller, Martin, Pryor, Cooks, Verrett, Bucannon and Roby. I got this info from the Scout.com rankings. This shows how important player development is. There are many 5* that washed out of college for what ever reason.

Nope. Shows how important recruiting is. Half of the 1st round picks were 4* or 5* players even though 4* and 5* players made up only 14% of players from the draft-eligible classes of 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Obviously, some players in those classes have already been drafted or draft-eligible and most are yet to be draft-eligible. But let's assume every player in those three classes was aiming for this draft.

16 out of 1167 4/5* players were drafted in the 1st round
16 out of 7241 2/3* players were drafted in the 1st round

Recruiting is key.

*I choose Rivals because it lists every team on the same page making it easier to cut and paste. I doubt Scout would be much different.

Way to coach'em up Mack!!

They said on local radio here that it was first time since 1937 they had nobody drafted.

PH, We ain't gett'n no five stars.

There aren't many 5* players to get. But 4* players on the other hand. Clawson's working on it.

Yeah! It will be sweet cheering on Nikita in Cincinnati. Hopefully he sticks.

Who was the last Bama defender to be good in the pros? Seems like a lot are busts (McClain and Cody I'm looking at you).

most of the secondary guys are pretty damn good. linebackers are alright overall.

Courtney Upshaw? He's okay. Who are the top guys? It seems like these guys are overrated a bit to me. Who's on Joe Haden-level?

that's why i said "alright" in terms of linebackers. hightower is the other good lb

barron, dee milliner are pretty good, kareem jackson is serviceable

Which school has the most successful defensive players in the league right now? The U? Ohio St? USC? UF?

You would think it's someone with ESSEEESEE SPEED, but I'm not so sure.

Penn State has some pretty good ones. Cameron Wake, Tamba Hali, Sean Lee, Navarro Bowman, etc.
