Game of Thrones Season 4: Valar Morghulis *No Book Spoilers*

The giant Anchor they threw down the wall was pretty amazeballs.

The Giant who opened the gate was played by former Wake bball recruit (and UNC player) Neil Fingleton.

As mentioned above, Lord Mormont the former Lord Commander of Night's Watch, also Jorah Mormont's (Daeny's sidekick) father.

Nice, thanks. Never did pick up on the shared Mormont name there.

So, to wrap things up: we have no idea why Jon feels compelled to venture out north, do we?

he knows the Night's Watch can't beat the siege and the only way to save everyone is to convince Mance to stop the invasion and fight the white walkers together

Good take. It seems equally likely that Jon wants to go kill Mance so the tribes go back to fighting among themselves. Given the arc of the series though, Jon uniting the North with the Wildlings seems more likely.

Anyway, I guess we get Jon back out there with another chance to find Bran.

Btw,

if you aren't reading "Ask the Maester" on Grantland, you should be, esp if you're not a book reader.

They probably could hold out for a long time but boring story, though Daenerys is just chillin on a throne right now. Step 1- Collapse the tunnel now, how hard is that. Step 2- The only way over the wall is to climb, impossible with swinging anchor thing. Step 3- Sit there bored.

Would only be a temporary fix. Mance would just move the army about a mile down the Wall and climb over.

Then the question is, "why wouldn't Mance just do that in the first place?"

Well I guess that wouldn't make a good story.

How many tunnels are there in all? Does the dick swinging anchor only protect the tunnel at Castle Black, or are there multiple anchors?

how would he accomplish that? the tunnel is the key to moving 100,000 people, arms and supplies to south of the wall.

There is only 1 tunnel, unless you count the secret entrances like the one bran used.

each castle had a tunnel until those castles were closed. they iced up those tunnels bro.

With 100,000 men you'd think you could just build your own tunnel.

Anyway, it's a story.
