World Cup Knockout Rounds Thread (USMNT THREAD!) (nwt)

Wait, what?

Drawing attention to being fouled should be illegal?

Tim Duncan is fucked. So are 98% of wide receivers in the NFL.

You will never win this argument. Falling down is one thing. It's the rolling around and screaming that is over the top in soccer. Funny enough, that's also how you know that they are acting. Injured folks don't roll around a whole lot.

Trollolololololol

It can be a foul. And he can act worse than it was. The acting was trying to draw attention. That deserves to be penalized as much as the foul.
And yet it isn't penalized in any other sport either. Basketball players throw their arms in the air every time they get touched, WRs as well, hockey players dive as often as soccer players. Soccer at least has a seldom used mechanism for punishing embellishment.

Embellish - the action of adding details or features

Robben added details or features that did not occur from contact from Marquez.

I never argued that Robben didn't embellish on the extent of the foul. I am just saying that it was clearly a foul.

I honestly don't know what rule is against embellishment. Do you know the exact language of it? Can you not give a yellow if there was a foul for embellishment?

True, but is it a foul you call in extra time in the elimination round of a tie game in the WC knowing it will probably decide the game without the embellishment?

Has SDeacz ever seen CP3 sell a foul?

Yeah. I don't like that either. I hate embellishment in every sport. It seemed at the time that a flop decided the game. Looking back, the sucky Mexican defense, Marquez stupid challenge, decided it as well.

Yes. It was a blatant foul in the penalty area. That wasn't a controversial call at all.

And I don't think I'm saying, anymore, that it shouldn't have been a foul. I just want flops penalized, in every sport, whenever they happen. Robben dove a couple other times too late, that went unpunished and weren't fouls.

Played most of my life. Watch a lot. Problem is how harsh that call is. A very minor foul with a major flop. I would like to see the ref have discretion on fouls in the box. PK or a corner kick.

Herrera could have obtained a pk in the first half if he flops rather than tries to head the ball.

Marquez stepped on top of his foot after he was beaten. It's a foul in everyplace on the pitch and at any time in every game.

It's ridiculous to argue that other sports don't have embellishment or flopping. Yes soccer players act like they are hurt worse than they are often and that is annoying as hell. In such a low scoring sport, where an embellishment can result in a goal then it becomes a much bigger area of focus.

The flipside of your argument is that there are a lot of clear fouls every match that are simply missed, so when a player gets fouled in such an important moment they are going to make sure it gets noticed. The severity of the foul, regarding the embellishment, wouldnt have changed the severity of the call. That foul ends in a kick no matter how much Robbin embellishes.

Just resaw Sneijder's strike - just perfect technique. It's extremely hard to drive a volley that low with that much power, takes perfect technique for it to not balloon over the bar. He absolutely crushed that.
