So no comment on all those fouls Suarez suffered in just a couple of months that didn't draw the ire of the British media, and often times went completely unpunished? Karate chop to the shoulder...no penalty.

Small wonder that the player thinks he has to go down...because in order to get a call it's the only hope he has.

Also small wonder he wants to go to Spain to escape such reprehensible treatment. Can't blame him, it's just unfortunate that the FA ends up getting what they've been driving toward for two years.

Speaking of the World Cup, this is starting to get ridiculous. Costa Rica should be winners right now. Two European teams benefit over CONCACAF sides from botched calls in the box (and how the hell do you get a water break 15 minutes before time in the World Cup? You can't play 30 minutes without being completely dehydrated?). Thank goodness the ref was able to spot dissent from the bench at a 50 yard range though.

What a joke...any American watching the World Cup the last two days has to have come away with a more negative view of the relative worth of the sport...22 guys play for 90 minutes and a guy that hasn't kicked a ball decides the winner.

Hopefully England adopts the shaving cream line and the goal line technology, and ignores everything else that's happened in this tournament from an officiating standpoint. When Howard Webb has looked a standout official, that really says something for how crap the officiating has been.

Not as far wrong as you probably think you are. European viewers are what the advertisers crave most, along with Americans of course but that's been pretty elusive up to now. Will be interesting to see what the viewership for USA-Belgium is.
 
There's also just the psychology for the officials, that they don't expect the "smaller" teams to be able to go toe to toe with the Euros. Also think an Australian official was probably a bad choice -- too much connection to Europe there.

I think a big part of why the viewership is up this year is that the tournament is in the Western Hemisphere. Matches up with schedules easier. Also, it's fun watching it in a bar where everyone is rooting for the same team.
