Good bourbon

Had the Pappy 20 after Thanksgiving dinner. It was quite tasty. My BIL had a bottle. He also had some bottle that was aged "at sea" that I dont recall the name (prob from all the wine followed by bourbon). He said that putting the barrells in the water speeds up the aging process or something. It was also delightful.

Probably Jefferson's.

Going up to TN this weekend and going to hit up McScrooge's per a recommendation from BearsandDecas (thanks!). Signed up on their mailing list and got this Thanksgiving night. I know all the Pappy will be gone and probably the BT Antique Collection, but hoping to score something nice.

Wow. Great selection of hard to find stuff, but they definitely aren't cheap. I paid $150 for PVW20 and $90 for the 2014 FR.

Jesus whiskey day 1: Glenfarclas 40 yr old scotch. Whoa, what a way to kick this shit off. A little burn in the mouth but incredibly smooth. Lightly smokey. Chocolate and orange flavors. This is a fantastic whiskey.

Just scored a bottle of PVW 15 from a lottery drawing at my local store. Hell yeah.

Jesus whiskey day 2: Isle of Jura 21 yr scotch. I really like this. More than yesterday's Glenfarclas. It's complex, has little smoke and is very smooth. Tastes Like Christmas.

Jesus whisky 3: Paul John Peated Select Cask. Lightly smokey on the nose. Very smokey once you sip. Tastes sweet like it was aged in a run cask. Nice burn at 111pf. Very nice. Never heard of this distiller, so I might keep a lookout depending on prices.

Jealous again of the whiskey advent calendar. I jut don't like scotch enough to drop this kind of coin on it.

Finally found a bottle of Angel's Envy Rye - wish I'd looked much harder for it sooner. Just ridiculously good. Their bourbon isn't anywhere close to as good.

Jesus whiskey 4: nikke taketsuru 17 yr japanese whiskey. This is very smooth, lightly sweet and smokey. Very delicate, almost too much so. I like it, but I don't know that I'd spend the $115 that it seems to be going for.

I kind of like it simply because I don't drink scotch very often. I like scotch, but defs more of a bourbon drinker. I think it's more than worth the money (esp since I didn't buy mine this year!)

It's very good. I'm surprise you had probs finding it in town. Modern at 9th and N, Eye St Cellars on i St. NW between 4th and 5th, and schneiders all almost always have it. Bloomingdale Liquors at RI and 1st usually does as well.

If you are willing to spend that much on a rye, next time I'd pick up a Col. EH Taylor Straight Rye. It's fantastic IMO. Just picked another one up today.

Eh I'm in Alexandria. They only had the bourbon last time I was at Schneiders. Plus the place I got it in Jersey rang it up as $8.99 so the decision to "splurge" on it was pretty simple.

I'll keep an eye out for the EH Taylor - thanks.

I enjoy drinking scotch but kind of feel like I'm cheating on bourbon when I drink it.

Post Santa visit and MIL Bday. Merry Merry
