"Honeymoon" and "Credibility Watch" are mutually exclusive. There are some people posting on these boards who would change coaches and strip scholarships after every loss. A good many would be calling for Shaka's head by now. Didn't his team get clobbered by Davidson this week?
 
The mention of Shaka did prompt me to look up how bkf's boy Jim Crews was doing at SLU. 297 KenPom. Nice. Better than Shaka though, right? Building that Billekin program up in the likeness of Bob Knight.

Who should have been given the job? We didn't really have many options.
 
Based on this season, I don't think I have learned much I didn't already know about Danny Manning as a coach a year ago. I don't know if he is the man to rebuild this program, take it back to previous levels, and go beyond.

On the flip side, however, I can't say for certain based on this season he is definitely not up to the task. I could with the previous guy--actually I don't think it required a whole season to see that he could not do it. So, Danny Manning's ability to succeed here is still up in the air, which is better than with name redacted, and things will certainly begin to tilt toward certainty after recruiting trail results this year.
 
Unlike many on these boards I was not very familiar with Manning. However, after watching what he has done with the "dumpster fire" that was Wake basketball I am very impressed with what he has accomplished this year. So he does not have a winning record...at least he has been competitive with the limited talent available in most games. The man has a businesslike demeanor about him and chooses his words carefully. Silent but deadly, IMO. Give the man two to three years to showcase his abilities and we may all begin to refer to him as the "Black Pearl"
 
Can't blame anyone for questioning Manning after the two historic blowouts and then today's blowout loss to BC.
 
This is all Ron Wellman's doing. Trashed the program for no reason.
 
Our talent level is really bad. We would be OK with CMM and DT leading a young thin team, but then DT went off the reservation.

The Buzz era was a statistical outlier that can be thrown out as not to skew the data. Danny should never be judged in comparison to Buzz he should be graded compared to our historical average.

This seasons gone about how we could expect with the talent, but Danny has really shown nothing to inspire me as a in game coach. One historically average 2015 recruiting class isn't that impressive either.

I hope Danny works out and makes us competitive again but if your sold on this happening you are being foolish.
 
I think the '15 class Manning brought in without much time to work is a pretty good positive. Other than that, Catamount's post is perfect.
 
Our first 10 ACC losses were by a total of 85 points. We've lost our last three by 97.

Say what you want about talent, etc. That is not going in the right direction.

How does this class rank for us compare to how Gottfried's first class was ranked at NC State?

I think all of Gott's classes have been really good / better than our '15 class. But I dunno, I think the '15 class we signed was solid and encouraging coming off Bz. Made me more positive about DM. But I could be convinced otherwise, I don't really know that much about recruiting to be honest.
